RotG was stock standard for a holiday kids movie. With it's theme being believe in Santa/Easter Bunny/Fictional character invented to coerce children into being well behaved. Didn't hate it, but didn't like it.
I have mixed feelings about RotG - I like the part about 'finding your center' (per North's dialogue with Jack), but I always struggle with movies that encourage people to accept their place in the world/their destiny (somehow I picked up on that as one of the film's messages).
Jack brought up the whole thing about North (Father Christmas), the Easter Bunny et al
bribing children into behaving well fairly early on - so for me the film wasn't ever really going to be about that anyway - that 'truth' being addressed so early on in the film. I think the film was really more about
believing in something - having faith... I suppose; Honestly it's tricky to distill out the film's main premise relying only on partial recall.
I remember I liked the part about
believing in - or accepting - the boogeyman, but not being afraid of him.
I got
Megamind included as a kind of 'bundle deal' with RotG - I stayed away from Megamind originally because I was put off for a number of reasons (Will Ferrell, yet another 'comedy' spoof superhero movie, etc.), but I actually found it to be quite likeable -
Megamind himself was quite a likeable character.
