Finishing up the Redwall series since I got the rest of them for Christmas. Sable Quean (finished; It was especially grim what with all the child slavery and violent stabbing/slashing) Mariel (which I thought I'd read but I guess I never did) and Rogue Crew (which I will read, eventually... It's going to be hard because then I won't have any more of them to read. ;^; RIP Mr Jacques.)

Thanks to the Netflix series reigniting my interest, I've dived into A Series of Unfortunate Events. Currently just past Carnivorous Carnival, can't yet order the rest because I am poor. Previously I had only read 1-3 and for some reason someone else's copy of Carnivorous Carnival. I didn't remember much of it though, clearly because all the vfd elements surprised me totally and I'd completely missed out on who Esme Squalor actually was. Just about the only thing I remembered was that the circus freaks betrayed the baudelaires

I'm trying to read Notre-Dame-de-Paris and oh god, Hugo writes like a student who has nothing to say about the subject at hand so he just keeps padding with page-long tangents about nothing and namedropping everything imaginable and everything is interspersed with contextless latin quotes and pointless bullshit. I don't remember what little I've read of Les Misérables being that bad.

Holy shit Victor Hugo interrupts the climax in which Quasimodo defends the cathedral by raining molten metal on the court of miracles and killing Frollo's brother for a 25 pages chapter wherein the king of France lists his monthly bills in excruciating detail while pointless randos comment in latin.

I tried to read The Man Who Laughs but it was just so much goddamn nothing.

Agreed. I liked the 1928 silent film adaptation by Paul Leni though.
