Started a topic for this game because why not? I expect it'll get plenty of discussion. Gameplay of Dark Souls, the vast worldbuilding of Elder Scrolls, combat of God of War, and story of an epic fantasy novel. That's Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

When I first started it felt a bit weird because your character is fast. Even when not sprinting there's no lumbering around. I spent five minutes just dashing back and forth because you skid slightly when making a sharp 180 turn. What can I say? I'm easily amused.

I quickly learned the combat is more like a fighting game than I had originally thought. You could just mash the attack button to win, but by delaying a button push you can do a different attack to lead into a combo. With my sword I could push X to hit, then wait a second and push X again which would bounce the enemy into the air, where I could then mash X and juggle his helpless body with a series of strikes that ended with a powerful blow that sent him across the room.

If you're not sure about the game, then you can download a free demo on the Xbox, PS3, or Steam to give it a try. If you like it, then by playing the demo you unlock some free DLC items for when the actual game is bought, along with two exclusive items for Mass Effect 3. And if you play the ME3 demo when it comes out you get two items for Reckoning in addition to the ME3 DLC. There are some bugs in the demo, but word has it they've all been stamped out in the retail release so don't let that color your perception.

I haven't played Fable past the first one, but I have played Dark Souls. Seems pretty similar to it with the shield mechanic, groups of enemies coming at you, and running around everywhere looking for that single ladder to get to another area.

Funny enough I play a ton of fantasy RPG's. 3/4's of my library are fantasy RPG's.

I just dislike Fable for being too easy.

fable 1 has quite a few near death situations, moreso than the next two. i look back, i think fable 1 was the most fun. you should try that.

anyway, im goin to play this game. looks pretty fun, since i saw that there was a stealth tree

how the fuck do you run that fast in armor though jesus

I played Fable 1 and I found it far too easy. I didn't see any of those near-death experiences when health potions rain from the sky and I had the Divine AoE/Slow Time/Multi-Attack spells. Blitzed through the entire game, including the final boss and sidequests, without a single issue.

But yeah, KoA is a ton of fun. Played the demo last night and had a blast in the 45 minutes after finishing the tutorial. Picked up a flaming sword, killed bandits, cleared a cave (gaining two purple items), completed some quests, stole from a shop, massacred the guards that caught me stealing from the shop, and just figured out the combat system.

Didn't get to try out chakrams though. Got a sceptre random drop though, and it was like playing a shooter with how I could just spam shots from it or charge up for a big one. Switching between weapons was also really fluid.

I played the demo for this game, but it felt like Fable in every single game and the graphics weren't spectacular.

Idk, didn't seem worth $60 to me

It's pretty fun, well to me at least. I relaly dislike the camera though, it's like there's something heavy of the end of it so when you move it it goes a little farther than you want.
Also the targeting system is a pain. My character takes priority to targets that are on the other side of the room, and not the ones directly infront of me. I keep wondering if there's a manual aiming button and I'm just missing it.
Also is it just me or does the teleport that replaces the roll when you reachs the third tier of sorcery cards seem a bit more restrictive than the dodge roll?

Think I spent five minutes in the demo just sprinting around various flowers and grabbing them without even slowing down.

Huh I noticed there's a card that lets you specialize in all three categories.
I wonder if there's enough points to let you max everything out.

There is not. I found an online talent calculator and it looks like max level is 40. That card is Universalist I think, and it just means you split your points evenly between the three trees.

Trying to decide between Sorcery or a mixture of Might/Finesse.

So what happens after 45 min in the demo? Does it get locked out or restart or what?

It just says you've completed the demo and gives you some extra content for ME3.
THen kicks you back to the title screen.
