Some sort of account hijacking on steam is going on so don't click links that anyone messages you that have "steamcommunity.derp/whatever", it'll delete everything you have on Steam.

Have a nice day.

Yeah Firefox dissuaded me from going to the website that was linked to me.

THANKS FIREFOX!

specifically steamcommunity.ru/torah. Click on it and it'll ask you to log into the steam community web page. If you do, it will key-log your password. This will more than likely result in all of your TF2 items being deleted.

Be wary of anything ending in .tk, also.

Lets be real here, be wary of ANYTHING that comes to you over steam. Or anything else, for that matter.

Paranoia is your friend. Act as if everyone is out to get you.

For the record, .ru is a Russian domain.

Computer security time, here goes nothing:

It's easy to pretend to be another website. If no one pays attention to the URL (and even that can be spoofed) you can be almost indistinguishable from the real site.

There is one BIG thing that sets it apart, though, and that's what's known as a Certificate. It's bestowed from a Certificate Authority. It's a way to make sure that someone is who they say they are.

If you notice, in Chrome or Firefox if you go to steamcommunity.com, you'll see SOME indicator near your address bar letting you know of the Certificate that's present on the web site. This actually comes from looking the certificate up in the CA and the browser letting you know everything is legit. These things are daisies near impossible to spoof and really the only way to get one that shows you're "Steam ltd" or "Valve" or whichever it is (already closed the page) is to steal it. Which is also a bitch.

That being said, don't click random links. Check for security certificates. Use your brain.

Uncle Dimm, signing out.

Be wary of any odd domains (.ru is for Russian domains, for example).

If you did get your account hacked, then run ccleaner and perform a virus scan (Microsoft Security Essentials is very nice for those of you with win7 and I guess Vista but I'm not so sure about the latter). Preferably before you try to change your password, for obvious reasons. However from what I understand this is locking people out of their accounts and not allowing them to log back in, so if the problem persists contact Valve immediately and try to provide as much information as possible (who sent you the link, what time it happened, any games missing, etc.).

Me and Squig are known "carriers". Lolita and Hisan both got phished. Don't know who else. I've changed my password and everything, so hopefully things are okay now.

I've reported 30 different Steam accounts for attempting a hack or being involved in an account seizure. This is fun.

I've been had this happen to me before and for some reason I was still getting my account hacked about once per week. The most tell tale sign is getting logged out of steam because someone else logged into your account, of course.
Also if you ask steam support what to do about it, they just reset your password.

What exactly do the messages say? Or is it just seemigly empty links? In my experience all phishing/scam attempts have reeked of being illigitimate. Were they especially convincing?
