In before "PirateDude makes a topic for everything" bullcrap. Seriously, I don't understand the logic of not making topics for specific subjects. If I were to post something like this in a "general discussion" topic, it will probably get only a few replies, if any at all. Surely there must be SOME people out there who want to talk about things more in-depth.

Anyway, THIS topic is about the Smithsonian having a public voting thing to see what games are going to be represented in this exhibit called the "Art of Videogames". Now this is great, because it shows that there are people who can accept that video games are indeed an art-form.

But they're going about it the wrong way.

The voting is going to be split into 5 separate eras, with one game representing each genre for each console. Problem is, there are only 3 candidates for each genre, and only FOUR genres for each console: Action, Adventure, Target and Combat/Strategy. That's it. No platformers, no puzzles, no RPGs, no fighting games, no simulation games, nothing but those four. And the only candidates for NES adventure games are The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Shadowgate.

Really.

What kind of video game exhibit is this? Is this the best they can come up with? Are there any people who actually know about video games that was actually involved in this? Well, lets feel free to complain about it directly to them! Here's the comments section for the voting thing:

http://www.artofvideogames.org/comments.html

And here's the direct e-mail address:

AmericanArtGames@si.edu

Try to be nice about it, though. They'll have a hard time taking us seriously if we go about this in the wrong way.

Grim Fandango, Baldur's Gate II and Fallout was bullshit. Why make me pick one. They're all perfect.

MEANWHILE, AT THE SMITHSONIAN...

Just another case of seventy-year-old jackoffs trying to be relevant and falling on their faces.

Apparently you've never actually been to the Smithsonian. It's incredible.

Seeing as how they're the single most important museum and collectors of historical items and cultural artifacts, I'd dare say they're not "trying to stay relevant".

Oh hell, I wasn't insulting the museum in general. Just this one instance of trying to chronicle the history of video games when they clearly don't have the experience necessary.

What experience do you really need. These are people who are world famous for gathering and presenting the history of pretty much everything. what makes videos games so daisies different that they need special experience to chronicle them.

There are 2093854675893475093 video games out there. They're not going to get everyone's favorite. The list seemed fine to me.

When this exhibit is on display I'll be in college, only a short walk away from the Smithsonian
