The response to Tabarnaco's very very very small RPG thought me that people her really really really want an AZ-based RPG! Soo... I decided we should do a proper community-contributed RPG!
This is going to work a lot differently from regular though. Because regular RPGs suck! Instead of a Final Fantasy-esque you-fight-using-generic-attacks-against-a-giant-still-image, this is going to be a LOT more like the Mario RPGs. Which is to say, using fluid, animated, creative enemies, creative attacks, mid-attack action events (for boosting attack power or blocking), and an overworld consisting of more than just Stay Out Of Long Grass.
The game will be made in C#, solely by me, since I actually
do know how to program games. But everything else will be where you lot come in!
Additionally, if we do manage to finish it, we can even be able to sell it on the 360's Live Indie Game section! Very cheap, of course (either $1 or $3), but it's still definitely something!
Sooo... to elaborate a bit more:
First off, it's a non-serious game. That doesn't mean we can't have proper dialogue or storytelling, but it does mean enemies should be creative and cartoony, and not just whatever-looks-awesome.
Secondly, enemies and other stuff shouldn't be exclusively AZ-related. I mean, the more AZ-related stuff the better, but there's no way we can make a full game out of that, so feel free to make whatever you want as long as it's not really out-of-place.
Thirdly, sprites should be more retro and stop-motion-esque. Regular animations probably shouldn't be more than 5 frames long (think Paper Mario 1), but they can move at proper speed.
Fourthly, self-inserts are more than welcome... as enemies. This is a game, not a make-your-own-life, so you can't really just say "I want to be a shopkeeper" like that. Making yourself as an awesome enemy is fine though (yes, Shirtless can count as a power-up).
Finally, avoid using copyrights and characters from other games. Parodies are fine though!
I... think that's it.
Oh. And ideas are welcome, but don't get into any specific suggestions yet. Or music. At the moment, I really want to make sure that there are enough spriters here to actually be able to make the game.
Oh right, sprite details! Well, the overall screen will be 640x360, and the main character will be... lets say 60 wide by 80 tall, so base enemies around that. Like I said, sprite animations should be simplistic and cartoony; a case of quantity over quality.
Regular enemies should have a regular, unnamed attack (can be anything, but default is tackling), and can have any number of special attacks (must have names), and have idling and taking-damage animations. But feel free to add anything else you want!
Also, it should use the 9-bit pallette. Which is to say, this:
Okay, NOW I think that's it! .....I really wish I could summarise this post somehow.
And to give a bit of a start, suggested ideas:
-Walking Billface (complete with extra facial expressions)
-Internet troll
-Katie's hat(s)
-BEEEEEEEES!
-Underground Walking Billface
(Protip: Kingdom Of Loating might give you some ideas. Check its Wiki if you don't play the game)
