Hey AZ! I know this cool little online game about making decisions to form your own personal nation, and I think it's pretty neat, so I thought I'd share.

http://www.nationstates.net/

To join
1. Click "Create a Nation" on the sidebar
2. Register (Very quick, and e-mail isn't even necessary)
3. Do quiz to determine your nations starting politics
4. Click your randomly assign region from the sidebar, for example "North Pacific"
5. Between the Factbook Entry and the Census Report you can click "Move to a new region!"
6. Search "Awkward Zombie"

You can upload your own flag from settings. I think you can all figure out the game for yourself from there.

The Principality of Fellandy has joined the region!

And as our motto clearly states: "Well, there goes the neighborhood."

I like how Fellandy is a Democratic Socialist government.
It's actually sort of what I was hoping for.

The Empire of Squigzog is a fledgling, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their cheddar however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government is mainly concerned with Religion & Spirituality, although Law & Order and Education are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 22%. A substantial private sector is led by the Beef-Based Agriculture industry, followed by Book Publishing and Gambling.

Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to a well-funded police force. Squigzog's national animal is the squig, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the squig.

My Issue:
Members of a new weird religious cult, called the Order of Violet, ask for the government to appease their mighty god by offering Her a sacrifice of the human variety.

MY CHOICE: "We must go much further than a few beggars!" argues the overzealous High Member of the Order of Violet, Dave Spirit. "You must pass a law that everyone's first born child must be slaughtered, on live TV if possible. Think of the viewing figures!

My nation is a Capitalist Paradise, which is convenient because I love cheddar.

My issue for the day (I'm torn between 1 and 3):

In response to a slow news week, certain highbrow newspapers have stirred up the debate over voluntary vs compulsory voting.

1. "Compulsory voting makes about as much as sense as having the death penalty for attempted suicide," says civil rights activist George W. Mombota. "You can't force people to be free! You can only give them the choice. Besides, if all those derelicts who can't be bothered to get off their butts once every few years voted, who would they elect? I shudder to think."

2. "It's not contradictory at all," argues political commentator Billy Jefferson. "The fact is, if not everyone votes, the outcome isn't truly representative. Some groups--like elderly gun nuts--vote more often than others. That's why we always end up with such terrible politicians."

3. "This raises an interesting issue," says Larry Li, your brother. "And that is: why do we need elections, anyway? Seems to me it would be much simpler if you just decided what was right, and did it. Wouldn't that save everyone a lot of time?"

TL;DR version (and i should probably post this in taboo topics): The majority of people are uneducated about politics and dumb as fuck. A true democracy is a scary thing, and despite the frequent uses of the word in America (by the same uneducated people mentioned in the first sentence), it is quite possibly the worst form of government out there. IRL, I would not be against the idea of a type of "political IQ test" to determine if a person knows WTF they are doing, and what the political platforms actually are, before they vote in an election. It's a shame such an idea is unfeasible
