There are 3 games out I know of so far

and the latest one, Stalker: Call of Pripyat

I only played about 2 hours of the first one, but it was buggy and refused to work past that

WHAT ARE YOU, DEAF? WHAT ARE YOU HERE?

He was a good stalker. Let's drink to him once more.

WHAT IS THIS SHIT? I NEED REAL STUFF!

Ugh, when is all this going to end?

YOU CAN'T GO THERE.

Marked One, what's up?

COME HERE, I'VE ALWAYS GOT SOMETHING INTERESTING FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

Come here. Let's have a little chat.

I SAID COME IN, DON'T STAND THERE!
I SAID COME IN, DON'T STAND THERE!

GET OUT OF HERE, STALKER.
GET OUT OF HERE, STALKER.

God, I love the NPC spam in the STALKER series. I know that it annoys the hell out of most people, but it amuses me to no end.

Have the game, never got round to playing it more than a few minutes past the introductory conversation with that guy (it was so long ago I can't really remember that either). Wouldn't mind going back to it at some point, but it's not far up on my list of *Things to Play*.

Remind me, was it an online multiplayer? I seem to remember that being a significant part of it...

It has online multiplayer, but as far as I, and I assume most people are concerned, single player is where it's at.

Hrm... Single player games can end up feeling lonely for me, especially shooters... Might still root it out at some point though. If it's as good as everyone says, it's probably worth it.

It's a hard game to like, especially if you're playing vanilla. Many needless frustrations.

Same here. No other game that I've played has even come close to duplicating the melancholy atmosphere of Shadow of Chernobyl. It's one of the most interesting atmospheres I've ever experienced in a game. Extremely grimdark. You're essentially just trying to make it by in a world that is largely inhospitable. Because anybody, and I mean anybody can die, it sets the tone that you, or anybody else, don't really matter. You live alone, you scavenge alone, and you die alone. Because people can die at any time, just like in real life, and that helps to further cement the feeling of solidarity that the game conveys, and further immerses you into the game, and the STALKER universe as a whole. And because you're technically illegally trespassing, it has that added element of forbiddenness to it. In the end, you're just another person trying to scrape by, and because you are doomed to be alone, it makes you value the friends that you make along the way. It's very a very harsh and unforgiving world, and that alone is enough to draw me in. Is it depressing? Yes, it is. But that's what makes it so real to me. Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something.
