also known as "we've cheated, we're going to pick on the ones who didnt cheat by not healing them", aka, internet tough guys/medics/fuckwits

EDIT: If you don't know already, there have been some 3rd party applications used to idle in TF2 to idle in order to get hats. Valve has removed all items from each of those cheaters individually, and as a slap in the face, gave a new halo item to everyone who did not cheat.

There are so many rage topics in /v/, it's so funny.

Ironic how people who don't even play the game are raging hard over losing items in said game.

Let me sum that up...

"I'll start a thread talking about a group in TF2"
"Oh look, there's already something in my signature, I'll just type something up that refers to that"
"What, nobody cares about your signature, man."

Hell, they didn't even know that there was a rule that was being broken.

They didn't know that using what was essentially an AFK-bot would be against the rules?

I think Darwin needs to work some of his magic here.

I used it for less than a week, and got no items I didn't automatically deleted, but got no halo. I'd be rather rustled except that, y'know, the halo SUCKS!

That's what people are critstorming over!

Of course, games are the most prominent place where people love to go absolutely retarded over that there are small things in the game that some people can get but they can't. Even when they're unlikely to actually use the thing in question!

Yes. AFK bots aren't one of those things automatically condemned as cheating. Games like NethackAO even encourage people to try create bots! Valve knew well about what was going on, but didn't even say that they considered it a bad thing to do!

Ignorance is not an excuse. If you can't take the time to think that exploiting something in the game that also hurts the team and fills unnecessarily space on a server, which adds to any lag or bandwidth, then you don't deserve a warning.
EDIT: After reading the apparent description from the group, this sounds more like hacking than idling. Either way, it was retarded.

The Big Cheese, you have no idea what we're talking about, do you?

Here's a tip: it's not about going AFK.

Its exploiting a system to gain something without actually playing the game. I don't really give a daisies how it works, I don't like it.

The halo is nice because it also takes away the default hat, so it looks like you have a hatless soldier, for example.

Anyway, I think people should stop being upset about how valve "didn't warn them". It's not like they LOST anything they wouldn't have had if they never used the idler.

Plasma, shut the hell up. Idling and AFK are basically the exact same thing except Idling means you're sitting around doing nothing for hours, and taking up a slot in the server that could be used for someone who ACTUALLY WANTS TO PLAY THE GAME! WHICH IS WHAT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Dark Wins, you lose. Game over.
Now that that's been said, I'm going to go enjoy my new halo~

*joins the 4chan party van server*

It's funny how people complaining about this whole thing seem to think they have an actual case. Although hilarious, the complaining has made my faith in humanity drop a little bit.

Yeah... no. Idling is where you join a server dedicated to idling rather than playing, and... do nothing.
Heck, in most people's cases, they didn't even join one of those servers, they joined a non-TF2 server outside of the game that simulated an in-game server!

Hence is why I said it's not about going AFK. Which you vocally protested to. gg, next map.
