Just wondering how the majority of people got into video games in general, or even how they got into certain games.

I was pretty much destined to be a geek, seeing as my mum was a NES, and then SNES addict. I was pretty much raised on Super Mario Bros 3, among others like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Lylat Wars.

So yeah, I could go into more detail. But I'd end up writing an essay about finding Metroid 2 on a bus, or how my dad bought Metal gear Solid for my cousin, until it turned out he had a dreamcast.

So yeah, spin some yarns about your introduction to gaming. Hopefully they won't be as boring as mine.

Back when I was about...one or two? We got a new computer. Kids from the neighbourhood installed some classic games on it (Lemmings, Prince of Persia, Risky Woods, Links). It all went uphill from there.

So yeah. I guess I got into games thanks to... piracy.
I'm still against it though!

I got into videogames back with 5 1/4 inch floppies... Remember those? If you don't, you are a young wippersnapper. Well, I insisted on playing numerous educational games as a kid, Back when educational games were awesome.

Number Muchers FUCK YEAH. I also played some other awesome games like Zork.

Well, eventually, my parents had to move from Virginia to California. That's a long booty drive, at least 48 hours of driving, which ultimately became more like 6-7 days. I was very irritable about having to sit in the car for that long, so they bought me an original gameboy, with Super Mario Land, Tetris, Dr Mario, and Qix. It just sorta went from there.

SNES, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. My mom played it when she was pregnant with me, and I started playing it soon after I was born. The Game Boy in my toddler years helped too.

Well, when I was like three my cousin gave us his Sega Genesis and my brother had an original Gameboy, but I didn't really understand games back then. I just knew you pushed buttons and stuff happened, and you tried to advance to the right (most of the time).

When I was seven, Pokemon came out. Lots of the stuff was told to you, like what you had to do and a lot of the simple game mechanics like type matching and leveling up. You wanted to understand it. It was pretty much Introduction to Gaming 101.

I was the oddball really... seemed like I was the only kid in school that didn't have a videogame console at the time.

Everybody had either a NES, SNES or Mega Drive (Sega Genesis), and I didn't really understand the differences between them so I bothered my parents to buy me a NES, which was really an outdated piece of kit at the time.

In the long run I think it was a good call. The NES games gave me a good grounding in understanding videogames.

Most of those other kids that were in school at the time I got the NES have probably grown out of videogames altogether now.

As it is, I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority of people my age that still buy and play Pokemon games... I could be wrong though.

Also, I had access to my older brother's Commodore 64 occasionally.

What age are you? Personally, I've been playing Pokemon so long, I don't think I'll ever stop. Those games taught me to read!

You are definitely wrong. A shockingly large portion of the people who play Pokemon games are in their 20s.

Too old to be here probably.

Yes, I think around 20-30% of Pokemon players are in their 20s. I'd say at least a million 20+ players.

Well, maybe I'm not as much of a retard as I thought I was.

I'll probably still be playing Pokemon when I'm past 30. :awesome:

Your thinking is out of date... Prepare to have your mind blown...

A study performed by the Entertainment Software Association in 2006 which shows that 25 percent of all gamers are 50 or older

Admittedly, a large portion of those probably do not play cutting-edge games, but it does help remind us that people of all ages now play videogames of various varieties.
