I was wondering how many people use cheats and/or walkthroughs for games.
If so what games and why.

I am not ashamed to admit I used the walkthrough for OoT Water Temple. I also used walkthrough help here and there for Link to the Past.
I mostly use cheats if I'm looking for quick plays. Like Tony Hawk 2 for the N64, I'm not going through that without cheats. And Sims2, I enjoy having the option to speed time and kill people without burning a house down. And to get free things on animal crossing, like excitebike.

I use walkthroughs a lot. Mainly because I'm an RPGgamer mostly, and they can get confusing.

I don't use cheats. But for walkthroughs... it depends on the game. For any sort of puzzle game, not at all. For RPGS, a little. And for Pokemon, constantly. Bulbapedia is apparently my most-visited website of all, according to my browser.

I use walkthrough when I've been stuck in one place and have noooo idea where to go next. Okami is a good example.

As for cheats, I only cheat in sandbox games like GTA for maximum enjoyment, and when I've already beaten a game.

I don't use cheats very often and when i do its for 2 reasons. 1) When I've beaten the game and want to have a little fun. 2) When I've been on something so long it makes me want to stab my eyes out. Other than that it kinda takes the fun out of the game. Walkthroughs I use if i get stuck for a while or if its for stuff like breeding or item lists and stuff.

I occassionally use walkthroughs, since having fun playing a game > my pride as a gamer. And when I get to the point where I want to smash my controller into the TV I definitely reached the moment to look up what I need to do.

Aaaand to look up eastereggs. I never find them by myself, I'm that lame.

I try refrain from using cheats in games whenever possible. As for walkthroughs, I have the tendency to rely on them heavily.

I admit it...I use both. ;w; I don't mean to, but sometimes it's just easier.... I mean, YOU TRY TO FIGURE OUT MAJORA'S MASK WITHOUT A WALKTHROUGH! That stuff's hard. Also I like dressing the character in funny outfits.

I try to avoid walkthroughs like the devil, but there always seems to be some aspect of a game that is poorly explained, and I end up going to a walkthrough in order not to bash my head against a wall until the puzzle magically falls into place.

IMO, it's bad design when some things are practically unknowable or unsolvable without the usage of a guide.

depends. if im stuck for over 5 weeks is when i generally consult a walk through.

@pie: i beat the game without it :p

now finding all those god cocking masks without the guide is nigh impossible

I always end up abusing the console in TES games and Fallout 3

I use cheats and faqs and action replay...

...but only as a last resort.

Btw, I got every single star in SMG without using cheats, faqs or action replay.

I tend to use walkthroughs for RPGs, but only for dungeons and side quests.

I get lost. A lot.

Nothing of the sort on the first playthrough unless it's absolutely necessary (i.e. I'm failing very hard). 2nd playthrough and on, everything's fair game. Like a personal code, if you will. I'll often do 100% games and such my second time around, depending on the game. GTA is the one exception. I feel no guilt for cheating the hell out of those games.

The only time I used a walkthrough was recently, with Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. We (a friend of mine and myself) had played it halfway through when she found out we'd missed a bunch of items. She printed out a walkthrough and we started over, this time taking every item along.

Was kinda cool, the way we cooperated. She pretty much navigated us around, telling me where to go while I handled the actual gameplay. Backseat gaming done right.

I think this is really fun. I grew up with bigger siblings pushing me out of the way and so I watched a lot. Now I love watching people play games, as long as they're pretty good. Like watching someone trying to basically snipe zombies with a low power shotgun? Ugh, use common sense.
