I found out there was no Dangan Ronpa thread so I decided to fix that. After consulting with the Experts on where to put it, i guess the thread would go here since it is a video game even though a lot of english speaking fans haven't actually played it. Whatev

For those of you not in the know, the basic premise is: after being accepted into a prestegious high school, upon entering, 15 students are locked in the school. The rules state that if one of the students successfully kills another student and gets away with it during the trial, they get to graduate. If they win, all the other students are punished. If they lose, they alone are punished (executed).

The Something Awful forums put up their paywall again so I can't keep reading, but I was midway through the first trial of Super Dangan Ronpa II and I think I know who the culprit is.

Update #35 posted last week, I'm not really sure about the usual schedule but I hope that means that a new episode is gonna be posted some time this week

Man I am liking the trials in Dangan Ronpa 2 more than the ones in the first game, because of the actual debating.

Agreed! I think the trials improved a lot from DR1 to DR2. It feels like everyone has something to say instead of letting the protagonist lead the show.

the ones in the original often consisted of togami or someone else being like "lol i know who did it" then the students being like "then tell us"
then he's like "yes, tell us, naegi"
which was a little frustrating.

This seems like a really interesting game. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any gameplay footage on YouTube beyond the English demo.

Check out the Let's Play on Something Awful instead. The OP does a FANTASTIC job. He provides links to music and video clips from all the trials. The SA paywall might go up occasionally but it goes down within a week or two.

Also you get dialogue like this:

Just finished reading the character introductions. Here's my opinions of everyone so far:

Makoto Naegi: Just like he says, he's average. So....I guess he fills his character role well?
Kiyotaka Ishimaru: Meh, not my favorite, but I don't really have a problem with him.
Touko Fukawa: Not really liking her so far. I've heard she's some people's favorite, so I hope she gets better.
Sailor Mercury Maizono: Wow, you are so totally and completely obviously the love interest it's not even funny.
Leon Kuwata: He wants to be a musician? I like this guy! Plus his sprite design is pretty cool. Kinda reminds me of Axel from Kingdom Hearts.
Hifumi Yamada: I hate hate hate this character trope. The fat, nerdy, implied pervert character is super annoying to me.
Aoi Asahina: Cute! My gosh, every sprite of her is adorable. I hope she's not a murderer.
Chihiro Fujisaki: Cuuuuuuuuute! I REALLY hope she's not a murderer!
Sailor Mars Kirigiri: Wow, I really like her sprite design too! Kinda broody, but she's no Togami, so I can live with it. I hope she gets better too.
Junko Enoshima: And the award for best sprite design goes to....! OK, creepy smile is a bit unsettling, but that's my only qualm.
Mondo Oowada: The heck is up with that hair?!?!?
Sakura Oogami: Once I got past the initial shock, I realized she's hilarious!
Byakuya Togami: Gosh dang I want to punch you.
Yasuhiro Hagakure: I'm not really sure how I feel about him yet. He's pretty chill though.
Celestia Ludenberg: This chick is cool! Round 3 of Please Please Please Don't Be A Murderer! I also don't understand why everyone says her smile is creepy, I think it's cute! Junko's is way creepier.
