aka gta 5

since this came out on pc i've been completely hooked on gta online and i've only stopped for five minutes to make a thread before continuing.

heists are fantastic and i feel like the star of an action movie.

I am currently level 21 in Online.

Pretty fun, but there are lots of little things that bother me... like:
* Lagging in races, so other people are naturally faster then you because every time you lag, the game does nothing, and waits for you to unlag.
* Parachuting. In the air its neat, but trying to stick the landing is really stupid. You can go directly at the target, but you might die faceplanting it(which results in DNF), or try to go safe, and end up missing it(DNF). There is rarely enough space between the last checkpoint and the landing pad for you to slow down and accurately land.
* Hiding from the police is haaard. They will find you... and they will kill you... Unless you go to the top of the mountain and wait it out. You can't hide in alleyways or anything because they have magical echolocation.
* When you start a mission that requires driving, it starts it from your position you.. started the mission at, which may involve driving halfway across the map.
* Lobbies. So much wrong with them.

if you hold Q and E together while parachuting you'll brake and fall almost vertically at slow speeds for a precision landing.

i completely dislike the avoidance of menus. it ends to a lot of extra loading when you want to go from a race to a deathmatch and can't just tell it as much so you end up loading into free mode, boomping down from the sky, then loading into a deathmatch and boomping back up because of the transition style they've gone for. otherwise it's not too bad once you find everything and can customise the settings so matchmaking is always closed and you get private free roaming, heh

This game is a fucking blast online with some friends, so much potential for dicking around. Biggest complaint I have is issues with trying to join sessions with friends and the game not automatically putting you in the same session when you leave a job session. What Decker said contributes to that, it's quite a hassle when the game dumps you into story mode if you fail to load, and it's annoying that you can't turn off the game automatically starting story or online when you boot it up.


I haven't had much issues with that, 3 stars is still quite easy. If I have 4 stars it's usually because I stole a jet and then it's very easy to escape. Just look at the map and dodge the police.

there are settings turned on (such as the "if i'm host, make me always stay the host" option) which alleviates losing people inbetween games since your group's always following the same host around instead of being haphazardly matchmade into rooms with hosts that have calcucomputers that can't comprehend the thought of more than two people joining at once. it also helps to create a crew-only or friends-only free roam and it tends to always dump you back into the same personal los santos.

hiding from the police is definitely harder in this one than it was in gta 4 because this one actually employs basic stealth elements. you have to escape the cops for a good distance and then pull over into a weird lil side road and duck into your vehicle if you want an easy way out, otherwise it's just gazing at the map and hoping they don't spawn on both sides of you. vehicle ducking is OP and helicopters cannot see you at all while you're doing it.

i remember playing gta 4 and escaping a four star wanted level on foot by walking through side alleys and ducking out of the sight of police whenever they passed until i got out of the zone. it was fun being a fugitive and i regularly do it in this game too, just gotta stick to areas that have bridges overhead or narrow alleys with corners to hide from helicopters with (They Will Find You)

non-stop pop FM is the best radio station, especially because it's shared and everybody except me hates pop music so as the dedicated driver on heists in my team i get to torture everyone with corona and lady gaga until we arrive at our destination

Ooh, I didn't know about that one, that's very helpful, thanks. Friends-only sessions are an option but having random people running around is part of the fun.

How are you guys going about making cheddar? I haven't started doing heists yet, but I've managed like $150k/hour with some friends switching between the same jobs that we've found fast ways to clear 'em (like hit 'em up).


For those interested in how it runs on PC: very well in general, they learned their lesson from GTA4. I have an i5 4440 and a GTX 770 with textures on very high, pretty much everything else on high and MSAA on x2, population variety and density turned down a bit and I get a pretty solid 60+fps. I did have to turn off the VRAM restriction since it indicates I'm 2300/2000MB, but I haven't ran into any real issues yet. Game looks quite stunning at times.

I was playing story on the 360, got bored and stoped. Its fun tho.

online is fun as shit, heists are fun as shit and infuriating as shit when your friends dick around too much.


but the dicking around is just grade A quality 99% of the time

at least when you lose the heists you had fun losing and that's what counts

i like how the mission restarts if you run out of lives and someone dies because nothing sucks more than having to spectate and every player is vitally important anyway so you wouldn't be able to finish. that's one thing this game does well, everybody feels important

well like on the humane lab raid, me and my buddy were parachuting down to land and he didnt open his chute and all i could hear was "why am i falling upside down"

I actually didn't realize non-stop pop FM was a thing in single player(id always just listen to whatever was on, and keep switching til I found something tolerable), and I don't think I ever listened to it.

I found it in Multiplayer due to the lobbies showing the radio channels when you are waiting for the mission to launch, and its all I've listened to since.
