So basically, Starbound is supposed to be Terraria in space, but its not just that, in this game you can apparently visit different, randomly generated planets, each one trying to capture a much different feeling from all the other ones. The goal of the makers was to make each planet feel completely different, and its actually a pretty cool looking game. For more info, check the link.

Starbound has been feature at i49, where there was a demo panel and a small playthrough by the Yogscast.

WARNING!
Before anyone starts complaining the game is broken/glitchy or whatever, keep in mind that this game is in extremely early beta, not everything is 100% done. If you pre-ordered it, you know what you were getting yourself into.

Another note, I've been researching into a server rental system called "Multiplay" that looks promising, I might try and set up a dedicated server with this stuff that will be open 24/7. This is uncertain, so please bear with us.

I don't want any Terraria hating in this thread, go whine in the Terraria thread.

Besides, i recall only 2 of the devs from Terraria are in this, and one of em is a sprite artist(I think), SOOOO

Not whining, just saying that declaring devs from Terraria are working on it doesn't mean much when they ditched their previous game. What would stop them from doing the same here?

I think the Terraria updates ceasing was fine and justified. One of the lead devs was having a kid, and the game was practically finished, the entire 1.1 update was like free DLC. They didn't abandon it, they finished it.

Also, hyped as hell for Starbound. Can't wait to tame a Bad Moon.

They didn't ditch it, they just stopped updating it.

They promised multiple free updates. That was their selling point. They gave one and then shuttered the game because the creator said that progression would only be sideways and he was not excited to work on the game anymore (aka bored).

That's what I call ditching the game.

You are mad at a guy for having some fucking ambition just because it means you won't get as much out of your two fiddy than you previously thought

The guy wants to take the game's idea into space and do something that has never been done before, but you'd rather he stayed and added new boss fights and guns to Terraria

I'll keep an eye on Starbound, it would need to be significantly different from Terraria to actually get it though. I like the concepts so far, it looks really unique, so far so good.

Also cat sprites

I got like90 hours of playtime from Terraria
If you bitch about not getting enough for $10 (Hell, most people probably got it for less) then you're entitled

Well pardon me for expecting someone who made a fucking promise to live up to his word. That's not being entitled, that's just wanting some decency. If someone, ANYONE, makes a literal promise with the words "I promise" then yes I am going to be rustled off when they break their word. The cheddar is irrelevant, whether it's a game is irrelevant, I fucking HATE when people think it's okay to break their word without a good reason. And no, being bored is not a reason, not when it was his job.

You do realize that he kept the "free updates" promise right? The one with the post-game stuff isn't the only patch that they released.

I was kidding about the entitled thing.
But seriously. 90 hours of gameplay for $10.
What else could they even add? Plus, Starbound looks way better.

If I was Great Handsome Oppressor, Id tell you all to stop whining and talk about updates to the daisies game in the threadw e have now 8===D

But Im not, so what I AM gonna say, is that theyre working on a tonload of stuff I hear. Lava, oil, fuel, prebuilt buildings, and form some of the mob designs it looks like Terraria ran into Ether Saga Online and left the confused Korean language and Death Star behind :p (note, I wonder if you could build a planet into the Death Star)

I've got over 200 fucking clocked hours in Terraria. Terraria started out really basic, they did update it, but the 1.1 was that one update that everyone specifically remembers. And really, I couldn't see much from past the Post Game shit.

One thing I do remember about Terraria, they had the idea of being able to traverse to other planets to collect rare ores, but that might've just been turned into the Demon Altar smashing for the 3 post ores.
But I am really excited for StarBound.
