I was going to post this in the 'What do you like to play?' thread, but it's getting a bit off topic, and by gum, I want some attention.
So I was hopping around the internet in search of some explanation for why the Wii's Virtual Console does not include Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, which are pretty much the forgotten generation of video games at this point (shut up Atari, no one wants to hear your bitching). And it hit me.
The Nintendo DSi. Specifically, the Nintendo DSi and its use of
original downloadable content for sale in exchange for a currency called Nintendo points. In other words, it's a clone of the Wii's Shop Channel.
At this point, some small games have been released (in Japan) or announced, such as WarioWare: Snapped!, a game that uses the DSi's camera.
There has been no indication of it from Nintendo themselves (that I know of), but what I'm insinuating here is that maybe Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles will be available on the DSi, not the Wii. This is just an intuition. It seems like a logical step for Nintendo, but I have no idea why they haven't already started.
So, if I'm wrong, then that just sucks. Continue to complain and bitch about not being able to play Super Mario Land. But if I'm right, then I have good news and bad news:
The good new is, woo-hoo, we can play Game Boy games again!
The bad news is, all you folks who vowed not to buy a DSi, well lookie here. This is why I think it'd be a logical step for Nintendo; new players are attracted to the fancy new features, and "hardcore" players are attracted to the backwards compatability. Everyone and their grandma will buy one.
Discuss the possibility and result of Nintendo taking such action. Failing that, discuss the DSiWare in general; refer to the link at the top for a list of DSiWare games and applications.
