How is double jumping even possible? I mean, if a character in a game can jump once in midair, what's to stop them from jumping an infinite amount of times? What is the reasoning behind having to take a break on land (or water) after every impossible jump before doing another one?

In Metroid Prime 3, when you get the Screw Attack, you can, like, quintuple jump.

That's nothing compared to the Spider Jump in Metroid Fusion.

Also, the reason only one double jump is possible is because the gravity recharges by drawing in geothermal energy through the character's boots.

Unless you get a Roc's Cape. Then it's just magic.

As we all know, many a liquidious substance can be frozen or evaporated at certain temperatures. Also, metals can be melted at high temperatures, and probably could evaporate too, plausibly.

I theorize that these properties are true for all elements, except Carbon dioxide (dry ice). The reason we haven't experienced these other physical changes is that substances haven't been exposed to temperatures extreme enough.

It is possible that this is the secret behind the double jump. If there were a way to cool the air, cooler than any other place on earth, cooler than ice caps and cooler than the upper reaches of the atmosphere, then it could reach a liquid state, or even a solid state, providing a sturdy foothold.

I got it! Back in chemistry, we made this crap the teacher called Oobleck. It's this liquidy stuff that turns to a solid for a split second when you apply rapid pressure. So, I conclude that characters' boots must contain some sort of device that turns the air underneath them into Oobleck.

ok, now this is how it really works....

in the shoes of characters there is a strong electro-magnet. it releases its charge mid-jump and propels the person up more. it has to recharge to do it again thats y you cant do a triple jump

actually, i have proof of their technology. Their boots produce sulfur hexafluoride.

it really isnt hard. they cant go more than once without an upgraded manufacturing capacity. it takes till they hit the ground to produce enough to double jump again.
