Huh, I saw the teaser for that an wondered.
Kinda figured they'd squeeze as much out of the series as they could.

I'm looking forward to it. I'm also probably the only one on this forum that likes Halo.

To be honest? I have never played Halo.

And from what I've seen, I'm not missing much. I've played better shooters.

I certainly haven't. I've played games with deeper stories, faster gameplay, better weapons, but Halo just has everything balanced just right. Good story, gameplay that works, and a very nice toybox of weapons. I'm definitely not saying it's the best game ever, but it's very high up there. Really, in order to formulate a decent opinion is to give it a try. Just don't go into it with impossibly high expectations. I hate when people do that. They always come out of a movie or game disappointed. It has to be either great or terrible. They can't just enjoy a game for what it is; entertainment. It's not supposed to make a huge impact on your life. It's an amusement. Problem is, people don't see that. They hate it because other people like it more than they do. I don't see the logic in those people at all. I guess what really angers me is that people say that Microsoft and Bungie are just in it for the cheddar. That they're milking the franchise. Granted, Microsoft is certainly guilty of that, there's no reason to get after Bungie Studios. This is their farewell to the series. After Recon they're done with Halo. Nobody really sees the hard work that went into making Halo. They don't see that this is a story they like. They've made this immense universe filled with characters, technology, and beautiful environments, and they put their effort into all of it. Just so that people can come in and bash it? I'm sorry, but that doesn't sit well with me.

EDIT: Sorry about the wall of text.

TL;DR: Play it first, then form an opinion. Also, Bungie worked hard on the game, and cares about it and its fans.

No, the story is shit, and I say that after having played all 3. Saying that the gameplay "works" doesn't really sell it much. I could say prison rape works, but that's not going to be the new upcoming title at the next E3. The weapons are... really boring. The only one I had fun with was the giant hammer in the new one. Go play Call of Cthulhu, and tell me halo is a better fps.

If you played it you'd know it was called the gravity hammer. Also, about the story being crap, that's all a matter of opinion. And about the gameplay working, I mean it all feels right. It fits very well with the game.

Call of Cthulhu is awesome, with the exception of the actual 'game' parts - controls are horrid and there's parts that are just unfair, not hard, unfair: Instant death traps that can only be discovered through trial and error. Halo has a mediocre story, but its gameplay and AI is some of the most balanced in the industry. As a franchise its certainly not revolutionary or particularly deep, but it has a near-perfect gameplay framework - in these days where graphics and (ever shorter) stories matter more than skill and such quite a rarity.

Hurm. This has great potential. No shield, possibly non-regenerating health, and not being a badass super soldier that can take out a seven-foot gorilla with his fists.
