AWKWARD ZOMBIE

My friend (Chapel here on the forum) moved in with me recently and gave me his unused Alpha Sapphire cart to play with, so I started a Nuzlocke run using the same rules monsieur McElroy is using with one addition:

1) I can only catch the first Pokemon I encounter in each area, including gift/trade Pokemon.
1a) If the first encounter is a Pokemon I already have, I can keep searching until I meet something I do not yet have.
1b) I absolutely may not shiny hunt/chain encounters, but if I run into a shiny Pokemon, I may catch it. If this happens, I HAVE to use the Pokemon on my team until it faints, even if it's useless.
2) If a Pokemon faints, I have to deposit it in my PC and never use it again, EVER.
3) No healing items can be used by me in battle. Held items and healing moves are okay.
4) I have to play the game in Set mode.
5) After each gym badge, I have to Wonder Trade a member of the winning team. The duplicate clause also applies here.

Using a d6 roller and a name generator, I ended up with Sophie the female trainer, and then...

(1 or 4: Treecko, 2 or 5: Torchic, 3 or 6: Mudkip) (d6=4)

After beating Brendan and getting my Pokeballs, I entered route 101 and managed to avoid everything until the poke-hunting mechanic was introduced, enabling me to get Monica the Poochyena (with Thunder Fang).
I avoided route 103 so that I could catch something more interesting on the other side of the river later in the game, but entered route 102 and got Judi the Wurmple who I then promptly trained into a Silcoon. I decided around here that I wouldn't cheese it and use the DexNav to pick and choose my first encounters in a route; the fun of a Nuzlocke is being forced to use Pokemon you wouldn't normally pick.

After helping Wally get his Ralts, I entered route 104 and got Berenice the Zigzagoon. Petalburg Woods gave me Lilja the Shroomish. Of course, after the woods I couldn't get anything, because it still counted as route 104.

Grinding got Fridrik to level 16 and a Grovyle on my team, who obliterated Roxanne with no trouble. After deliberation, I chose to Wonder Trade away Lilja, and got Litleo unofficially named Lesedi.

On route 106 I got Alica the Skitty, and then Nomiki the Whismur.

Nomiki went to the PC.
We breezed through the second gym using Judi, now a Beautifly, and wonder traded Alica to get an Oddish unofficially named Navid.

In the cave, we caught Sabina the Geodude.

The only really close call we’ve had up until now was a Machop on the beach of Slateport who almost knocked out Monica because I decided to be risky about things. She survived with 1hp, but I felt my guts lurch up into my throat for a minute there.

As things stand, my team is currently:

Y'know, one of my biggest regrets was never trying to revive the Pokemon Snakewood lets play I did, that's one of the few things I've done on this forum that didn't make me cringe 2 years later.

DAY TWOOOO

We continued north into Slateport and successfully delivered the Devon Goods, encountering a few weak Team Aqua grunts on the way.
After running around the city enjoying its charms, we returned for a minute to Dewford and got the forgotten Old Rod. A new member, Lidija the Tentacool, joined our team!
Then, back in Slateport, we got Ceolmund the Magikarp. (I did accidentally receive the Cosplay Pikachu in Slateport after this, but she's permanently PCed. Oops.)

On the way to Mauville and it's many attractions we picked up Marcel the Electrike, who took Navid's place on the team.

A few easy battles brought us to Brendan, and we handily wiped the floor with him, then ground around for a while until Sabina became a Graveler.

The fight with Wattson was cake, and after claiming our badge, we said goodbye to Marcel and welcomed Muciole the Volbeat! That's just Volbeat in French, but we'll take it! Welcome, Muciole! You are going... STRAIGHT in the PC.
To the right of Mauville, we caught Haralambi the Roselia on route 117, and cleared the rock tunnel.
We trained up Ceolmund into a MIGHTY GYARADOS and saw Monica evolve into a Mightyena.
On Route 112, just before the fiery path, we got Platon the Numel, and inside, we found Tatjana the Grimer.
We got Secret Power and set up a RADICAL BADICAL BASE and then immediately abandoned it to move on in the story, finally reaching route 113 where we all died of the black lung caught Liddy the super cute Sandshrew! Aww! She's staying where she is for now though.
We arrived to discover that Cozmo had been abducted (shocking! unexpected!) and moved on to route 114 where Lisa the Swablu joined us! She has replaced Judi on the team, but since so far we haven't lost anyone, Judi lives on with our other friends in the PC.

We've had a few close calls, including some crits that dumped Lisa and Ceolmund both down to single digit HP and gave me an early-onset heart condition, but we're still truckin along! As we head into Meteor Cave, here's the lineup:

DAY THREEEEE
Meteor cave gave us a Lunatone named Shafaqat.
We beat the Aqua admin and grunt waiting inside, which meant that the way to Mt. Chimney was finally open.
The fight with Archie and the grunts was a breeze, and on Jagged Pass, we got Drusus the Spoink.

The fire gym in Lavaridge was also a breeze, and we traded Lidija the Tentacool-- levelled a little as a backup for the fire gym-- for a nicknamed Swablu!
However, since I already had a Swablu, we traded him away again and got a Buneary instead, who we'll call Andrijana.

After getting the Go-Goggles, Brendan took us back to Petalburg.

At this point... I took a couple hours to really grind the fuck out of my team. Norman, from what I recall, is TERRIBLE, and I'll be damned if I lose any of my friends to a monkey pig sloth.

So, I trained up my team, and ended up with:

We got through the gym trainers with a minimum of close calls, though at one point someone scored a crit on Lisa and she dropped down to single digit HP, which scared the hell out of me.

Lisa went out first and immediately used Cotton Guard twice, then maxed out double team while Norman's first Slaking loafed around and yawned at me. She had a metronome, so a half dozen Dragon Breaths took out his whole team-- that said, his last Slaking managed to hit me once, and even with all my buffs, wipe out half Lisa's health, so I guess I'm glad I trained.

Now that I have another badge, though, one of my friends has to leave me forever. After a lot of thought... I decided to trade away Sabina. Although the next gym is a flying gym, I feel confident I can take it without her, and with me, she'll be stuck as a Graveller forever.

... or I would have, if she didn't already know an HM move. :I Confronted with no ability to delete her Strength move, my choices for wonder trading were narrowed down to Fridrik, Lisa, Lesedi or Ceolmund.

After a lot of agonizing, I decided on Ceolmund. I love him a ton, it took ages to train him up, he JUST learned a water move, AND I finally just got surf... but there will be other water types, and someone out there will get a nice surprise Gyarados. Goodbye, you lovely big fish child. You were super great, and I hope someone loves you as much as I did.

So, Ceolmund was traded away for... Fletchling. Well! Welcome, Fletchling. Your nickname will be Tully. Enjoy the PC.

With no Pokemon who can learn Surf left in my company except for Berenice in the PC, I return to get her and set off to find a route I haven't encountered anything in yet.

I finally realized I hadn't met anything on Route 115, so went to go Surf there, and encountered:

Mayamiko the Wingull!

... only to realize she can't surf.

Now my next mission is to catalogue every location I've encountered Pokemon on and find somewhere I can fish or surf for a new damp friend who can ferry me across the ocean. Likely locations: Route 103 (which I skipped! I remember!), the desert (maybe a fossil can help me?), Routes 109, 108 and 107... we'll see what we turn up there.

UPDATE: After MUCH EXTREME FRUSTRATION, and a KO'd Carvanha on Route 118, I finally got Yuval the Wailmer on Route 103. HALLELUJAH.

It's been a long time, and much progress has been made! I didn't update until now because my main PC is in the shop, and will be for the indefinite future, which leaves me with an asthmatic laptop with 2gb of ram. It's not great. Anyway!

To sum up what I can:

Berenice, having served her function, was returned to the PC, and my new Wailmer, Yuval, joined the team. Not too long after this, we encountered our first death. While saving Latias from Team Aqua, at level 37, Lisa the Altaria was struck down; I didn't know that Sharpedo could learn Ice Fang, and it OHKO'd her. RIP, Lisa.
Right after this, Latias joined the team, and I named her Adriana.
On Route 119, I got Dione the Tropius, but I accidentally knocked out my first pokemon on Route 120, denying my the chance to catch anything. The bird gym was a breeze, and winning, I traded away Tully, who I had brought back into my team and made into a powerful fire-type Fletchinder because Lesedi was getting overpowered and I wanted to make sure I could handle any Skarmory.
It turned out I didn't need to worry, but either way, I got Helen the Bidoof in exchange. I actually like Bidoof, but she went into the PC after this.
On Route 121, I got another chance to catch something, and got Lizzie the aptly-named Kecleon! Heading south to Mt. Pyre, I got Aries the Shuppet.
We confronted Aqua at the mountain, then at Slateport, then back in Lilycove, and in their base, I caught Mtendere the Electrode.

Around here I explored a little, and went to the desert with some repels to collect a fossil. I love both Gen III fossils, so flipped a coin, and got a Claw Fossil, but didn't resurrect it yet.
Surfing got us a lot of new friends, and for the sake of completion, I evolved some of my old guys, including Berenice and Mayamiko. On Route 126, I got Derrik the Chincou and ground him up to level 37...

At which point he died to a diver's team, making our second loss. 37 seems to be a cursed level.
On Route 129, we got Kay the Clamperl, and on Route 130 we got Gerald the Relicanth (which means unless he or Yuval die, I can get the Regis later! Sweet!)
I defeated the psychic gym easily with Monica and Judi, and traded Judi away, receiving a truly gnarly level 58 Druddigon in return, who I will call Ildar.
I ground around for a while in preparation for the coming confrontation with Kyogre and finally went to the deep sea cavern, and captured a Golbat named Boris. At last, we went to Sootopolis and the sacred cave there, and, since we only encountered Golbats, I was free to get Kyogre.
I managed to catch Erik the Kyogre at 10% HP with no status conditions on the very first ultra ball-- a 5% chance. Hot daisies!

Kyogre wiped the water gym all by itself, and at last, Sabina left the party, for whom I received an Inkay I'll call Oengus.

That's about where I am right now, and I may decide to stop here, or start over with new rules. Who knows?
