Luigi's mansion was a good game, but really the big problem with it was that it was fairly short. Basically, there were 4 chapters to the game, each on essentially unlocking 1 floor of the mansion (though you later get to go to secret rooms in previous floors, some with needed items to continue going through the game). Eventually though the game tries to lengthen itself by resorting to sending you off on a fetch quest for the 50 boos hidden in the mansion (all in rooms you've previously been in, or are about to go to, pretty much every room will have a boo, and if you don't catch them, they migrate around). You only need 40 of the bastards to beat the game, but completionists, of course, will get all 50 (not sure if you get treasure for doing so). However, the game was fun, it didn't drag out forever (you could probably beat it in 8 hours easily the first time, provided you didn't get stuck, which is possible), there's a lot of charming homages to Mario games, and the final boss was really great.
Plus, there's lots of treasure to collect, and the more you collect, the better your new mansion will be, since the old one will disappear after the night is over.
Also, oddly enough, when you beat the game, it unlocks a mode that makes it easier to catch ghosts, and encourages you to play the game again with that to improve your score. I kinda think they should have had a harder mode for a new game plus, but maybe they felt like there were people frustrated by not getting all of the best picture frames for the NPC ghosts or that couldn't get all of the treasure ghosts.
