enemy team, I can never win against her top and mostly just hope to not die too many times so she isn't that scary late game.

You wanna know how to counter Riven?
With Thresh.
When she tries to close the gap just be like "Nuh-uh girl, you're getting flayed."

Having some awesome patching issues, whoo. I sure love being stuck at 33% while my friends can play just fine.

What's weird is that I already downloaded the most recent patch and played just fine a couple days ago.
Welp here's hoping I won't have to do a full repair of all my game files.

He might look and feel easy, but he's actually one of the champs with a very high skill curve, so you'll need a good while to get a handle on him. But if you do, well, lets just say you'll be able to pull incredible moves.

Player stupidity that I'm surprised I haven't heard more about: Not knowing how to lead in a chase.
How many times have you tried to go to save a teammate only for them to run away from you? I can understand only noticing a teammate could have saved you right after you make a wrong turn (I've certainly done this) but the sheer number of times some people can do this is baffling. And how about people who just stop trying to escape for no reason? Especially the people who are apparently goddamn psychics who just happen to know just when to stop so that a skillshot you put some lead on will miss.

So, I've been trying to figure out like how to build certain champs and stuff, but I just can't figure out how to tell when to buy what and what to buy. Right now I've just been following guides and making item sets to go by, and I guess it's working a little, but I feel like I'd be better if I actually knew what to build. Anyone know of any good guides for learning that?

Number one rule is never just build the same item set every game
You need to adjust your build on a game to game basis

Yea I know, I just don't know like what counters what, and whether a specific item is good for a champ.

Like the other day I was building frozen heart on sion and my friends told me I should have gotten Randuin's first because the person I was laning against was stronger (can't remember who the other laner was though).

Unless the other person is a heavy autoattacker randuins is just better

Ultimately you need to ask yourself what stats you need and base it off that. Some champs have a couple of core items that just work really well, so you should focus on getting them first - others just need a lot of a certain stat, and can be more flexible. Usually once you have your core items finished, you can just ask yourself "Do I need more damage? Do I need armor/MR? Or just health?". (Also if you're playing a tank, make sure you get a decent bit of health along with resists).

Randuins is way more all-purpose than FH just because it has a ton of health, which is gonna be way more useful to you than mana (in most situations).

Don't forget the items maw of malmortius and mercurial scimitar if you're AD but need some protection against magic damage. The latter especially if CC is bringing you down. Those two items, especially scimitar, I infrequently see for some reason.
Also I might be mistaken but thornmail reflects the bonus damage from Nasus Q and Vayne W so... yeah, thornmail against them is often good.

So in my series of unconventional support in normals, ive picked up Support Riven.
won 4/5 games with it, though in one of the wins me and my adc were pretty irrelevant
