the funny thing about baby rosalina is that a younger rosalina is in fact canonically seen in a mainline mario game! you see rosalina as a little girl in that dumb in-game story book from super mario galaxy that people seem to love. combined with baby mario, luigi and peach these are the only characters who have babies in MK8 that actually have relevance outside of filling in roster spots (they all appeared in YIDS + M&L:PiT and baby mario + luigi were from YI)

however instead of having infant rosalina they decided to have baby rosalina because reasons. i guess they decided diddy kong or like a warioware character would be too stupid.

I think because they're adding retro rainbow roads, they've wanted to distance the nitro and retro versions from eachother in 7 and 8. 7's had a lot of people mixed, but I thought it was neat to include some planets, I didn't like the 1 lap course though. Maybe if they made the course more like Mt. Wario or the Wuhu courses I'd like it, but it was still a complete circuit so it felt like they could have made it at least 2 laps.

8's is just really weird. The space station feels like a combination of Toad's factory and the sunshine airport without really making an identity for itself. At that point, they'd have been better off making the track be centered around Rosalina's observatory instead of some random generic space station.

And more than anything, it's not really unique or inspired, and it's a cakewalk. There aren't many ledges to fall off of, and in a game based on antigravity, they could have made some tight corkscrew turns of the course to mess with the camera a bit. It felt more like they had to make a Rainbow Road so they focused on the look rather than the polish of making it a real Rainbow Road. At least we have Rainbow Road 64.

Electrodrome is my favorite course of the bunch, though I also like the revamped Wario Stadium DS.

Do NOT fuck with Toadette. Quality is kinda bad, but the joke is that her face never flinches or changes from a smile in all of these hits.

I really would've expected some planets that you could drive around Mario Galaxy style or something. Like, the road leads to a planet, and you drive all around the entire planet, before going on the underside of the road you were just on.

Mario Kart 8 is a fucking magical game. I haven't smiled this much while playing a game in far too long. They even took the worst track in Double Dash and made it actually fun. The antigrav gimmick doesn't add much gameplaywise, but holy fookin' hell m8, it looks so fucking good. And I love the new Rainbow Road, it's something new to Mario Kart, it feels majestic on a good lap, and utterly frantic on a bad one.
And Mt. Wario continues the tradition of giving the best stage to Wario.

So far I have only ONE complaint about MK8 and that is that the remake of the N64 Rainbow road is only one lap with those checkpoints

I know I have the original but I want my space-rainbow odyssey in glorious HD

Because they really did a great job with that track

I'm alright with the one-lap thing because N64 Rainbow Road is fucking massive, one lap is as long at 3 laps of an ordinary track.

Ehh, not really. Mt. Wario is one lap and it feels like a decent length.

Rainbow Road feels like "Wait, that's it?" when you complete it. You just blaze through the course and there's really not as much time to use items or race around other people.

They really should have made it a Wario Coliseum deal and just had 2 laps.

yeah, i see why they changed rainbow road but the problem is instead of it taking for-fucking-ever it ends in like a minute

mt wario was designed around being a single lap course so they made it three times longer then a regular lap on another course, whereas rainbow road is a long map but cutting it to 1 lap doesn't work
