According to the official wiki, no, it just pauses in place.

id assume if something changed someone would have said something
that said as long as your not near spawn you should be fine, my base is several hundred blocks so im fine actually, i was just avoiding going on out of respect to everyone else not being able to play

To be honest if you want to play just maybe start a new base farther from spawn or go exploring/resource gathering.

I'd like to get on and start exploring on the other side of my rail, but when I disconnected I was still in that cave with the Wither. I'm worried if I join I'll reawaken the beast.

im going on now, if you just stay out of spawn you should be fine, if you want to know the area the wither in hes basically within a triangle between JaggedZ's, Chloe's, and Squidzog's base, and he was last heading in the direction of the desert where Squidzogs base is in. Id say his Z level is 30ish last i saw.

My base isn't quite in spawn, but it's near it. I'll just have to stay off the server for a bit until the Wither's dealt with, I don't wanna join and risk seeing him by my underground lair. :[

My base is prettyq much in spawn, and growing giant mushrooms is a huge pain. I think I'll also be staying off for a while.

Guys, I'm telling you, there's no wither in there. Hell, I went to the desert by Squigz's house and nada.

He's not on the surface, but he's still in the caves. At least he was yesterday. I heard him blasting his heads around when I last joined. Though I think he's a few chunks away from the town.

I still say the pitchforks and torches method has some merit here.
