Story time

I found a village in Noff's realm and before I could wall it off it was attacked by zombies. Three villagers survived and I thought, "oh, that's okay then, I'll block them in their houses while I wall off the village and then let them repopulate".

That method only worked for my armorer villager. A zombie spawned in the big house the other two villagers were in and killed both of them. I was rustled.

So after I had the wall built and torches everywhere, I brewed a potion and made a golden apple and purified a zombie villager, turning them into a butcher. I traded with both villagers and gave them a lot of bread and potatoes and carrots. I just had to wait for them to breed.

Then one day a creeper blew up on my wall and when I rebuilt the wall, I missed ONE BLOCK. That night a baby zombie came in and zombified my armorer. I didn't realize what had happened until the zombified armorer burned up that morning.

So I was down to one villager again, the butcher, and I was rustled. Again. I made ANOTHER golden apple and sat around for two night cycles waiting for another zombie villager. I finally found one and, pleasant surprise, it became an armorer when I purified it.

Finally, after all that frustration, my two villagers bred and they kept going while I built more houses in the village. My population is up now from a measly one villager to six. I'm going to keep working until I can get an iron golem to spawn and then I'm going to have a crack at building a new village from scratch and moving a couple of villagers there.

Also I found a dungeon with nametags, horse armor, and saddles. Hurrah.

It was also a flatworld, hardcore server. :psyduck:

That's even better than a temporary ban. Especially if the "limbo" map had little mini-games you could do or something. Thank you for mentioning it.

Okay, I apologize for being a dick in that previous statement, and I can understand that some people would like the idea of being kicked out of a game for an hour to simulate a sort of realism and punishment for dying, but I just feel there are much better alternatives as a punishment for dying in a hardcore server, such as the limbo idea brought up in the previous post, giving players something to do while they way to re-spawn. Again, I apologize for the dickish attitude, but I still hold by my opinion that there can be much better alternatives to simply being kicked out of a game and forced to do something else.

It's nice to see someone on the internet admit that he/she is wrong. It's a rare sighting these days.
You're right, there are better ways to implement hardcore with temporary punishment. This is why the idea was expressed in this forum. So that other people could express any alternative methods.

An exercise in trying to make everyone pop flyin'.

(You can not make everyone pop flyin'.)

A problem I've encountered in one server is that some people are int the serious side of the game and that others just want to mess around. It doesn't sound like a conflict of interest at first, but I've seen it become a real problem.

Me toooo, but then there are the people who just want to see the (minecraft) world burn. The last time, I found thousands of chickens spawned in my sandstone castle. Hehe

A LONG TIME AGO, IN AGES PAST, THERE EXISTED: THE AZ SERVER

Which went okay for a while, but when the server owner wanted to make the server more survival-oriented. Some people were into it, others were upset. I think that in part had to do with the fact that people considered it the "forum server" so they believed it should have what "the forum" (i.e. them) wanted, rather than the person who was paying for it and letting others play on it.

I mean, it didn't get super bad - people just stopped playing on it if they got super upset, but we had some forum tantrums and it was v. trying.

In the end, I'd be up for another AZ Minecraft Server, but there would have to be very limited input from the forum, otherwise people might start thinking it's theirs?

I'd support it if I get to help build any sorts of towns, I know I did that in one of Noff's server iterations.

I even recall him wanting to make some fun little generation options with my stuff, saw what he meant and was impressed to see massive mushrooms I made towering over me.

I haven't played lately, but I've had tons of fun just seeing what I could build. Anyone use bukkit? Making nuclear-powered towns was an interesting time waste.

I tried playing Feed the Beast at one point but I couldn't really get into it

I think it was one of those cases where there was too much to do and not enough direction, so I just felt kinda overwhelmed. I dunno.

I played Tekkit for a while and got really into ComputerCraft and IndustrialCraft. After a while, I tried my hand at FTB, but the amount of gamebreaking proletariats is just insane. None of the automation proletariats really require much work to get going. It's just "hook up 3 pipes on these 3 sides and errything is good!". You don't really have to think. Just dig up the resources and build each part in order. I wanted to make my own modpack for a while with fewer proletariats focused more on the logistical side of Minecraft, but it's a lot of work and with the changes Mojang has made to the EULA has made me not want to do anything with it. They pretty much screwed over all the server owners before selling out to Microsoft.

Yeah the problem with the industrial stuff is that you have to wiki everything, or do trial and error to the point where you would never actually make anything work.

I played it with friends who wikied everything, so now I mostly understand it. It is actually pretty neat.

Bukkit was just the server software where server owners could implement plugins.

Nuclear-powered towns sounds like a modpack, which Bukkit is not.
