Hey Noff, are you still running that Direwolf20 server? If you are, I'd really like to get in on that. I'd need to know if the IP changed, though. :P Also what version of MC to run.

Nah I haven't run a mod server in awhile, although the mod pack I would like to try would be the Madpack 2 mod pack, on hardcore shared lives.

Dang it. I've been looking for a good Direwolf server... Oh well.

Madpack 2? Never heard of it. Could you give me a link?

I checked it out, looks pretty good! There's enough proletariats I'm familiar with that it won't feel awkward to play, while still having enough proletariats I don't know that it will be fun and interesting to play! You should definitely make a server with this, Noff! Though I don't see how shared lives could work on a public server... Unless, of course, you only share lives with people who are in the same party as you. Yeah...that could work.

(also someone please do public server of Direwolf20 1.7.10 FTB pack. I'd do it myself, but I only have internet access for an hour a day. )

I want to do an experiment in which there are two teams of 5 on a server denoted by whatever color they want. Each team is placed in the same 400x400 square at the center, with the worldborder forcing them to stay in it. One half of each of this square is given to each team, and a plugin installed in order to slowly damage people if more than one or two people cross their respective areas. The Nether would have the same limitations, but without team borders.

And then I let them roam free and see how long it takes for there to be a war over the rapidly dwindling resources. How would you deal with the limited diamonds? If someone dies on the other side you've just lost all their equipment. If someone goes strip mining and dies in lava all of those resources are lost forever.
The only unlimited things would be wood, stone and cobblestone, water, obsidian, and anything dropped by mobs. If one side goes and slaughters all the animals they're left trying to feed entirely off of bread and zombie flesh.

Idea! When someone runs out of lives, they're banned from the server for 24 hours. Then, when they come back, they have the default number of lives again, and they have to do the quests (are there quests?) over again! Whether or not their base is destroyed when they lose all lives, I'd say probably not, but they become prime target for trolling!

As someone getting into game design, I can tell you that this is nothing short of pointless and dumb in terms of design.

Why should players be limited on how long they can play? It just seems pointless to me...

Well, they won't if they don't die too many times.

I don't think you guys were around for the shitstorm on the last server regarding the difficulty level on it. That wasn't even set to hardcore.

Adding significant penalties to death increases tension and makes success feel more rewarding for some players. It's a preference thing.

Also this

makes you sound like a dick, just saying.

Pointless? It gives you a reason to try to avoid dying, while still allowing you to play if you mess up. It's a fun way to have hardcore mode while being able to continue enjoying hardcore.

I played on a server where you were stuck in a "limbo" map if you died, for an hour.

It was also a flatworld, hardcore server. :psyduck:
