Go with a variable personality, and make decisions based on what someone with that personality would choose.

Either do a neat character with a personality that can be fluid and not stale, or have your important choices on vote.
Probably take suggestions of quests to do also.

Have members play a big part in making the character. for quests and stuff I say take suggestions into account, but ultimately follow with what the character would do, except maybe in a few big key decisions or something.

My only suggestion is to base your character off something that exists already. My Dr. Insanno character? SO much fun, and he has good karma because he helps people before he obliterates them. For SCIENCE!

Finally getting somewhere with my Fallout game over the break. Going for a lone ranger kind of character, tries to do the right thing, but right now has to resort to bounty hunting and such to get cheddar. He doesn't like killing people but he does what he's gotta do.

I'm mostly sticking to the main quest, but doing some wandering and some quests in the Freeside area at the moment.

I just did the quest where you have to get a couple of guys off of drugs, but didn't have high enough skills to go with the alternate options, so I had to kill the drug dealer, and I did everything in my power to try and find a way to finish the quest without killing him. I think he glitched a bit when I punched him a few times, he ran away at first but then became neutral again. When I talked to him, though, the only speech option was to buy/sell stuff. Eventually though he pulled out a knife and I figured that was a good enough excuse to knife him up myself.

Double posting because my character is getting interesting.

So basically after visiting the Strip for the first time and confronting Benny and all that, he's decided he don't trust any of them big-city folk in Vegas and their webs of lies and corruption, and the only person he actually trusts in Boone. For a while, he's willing to let go of the curiosity he has about his own past, Ignoring Mr. House's contract, and instead would prefer to help out his buddy. And what does Boone want? To kill some Legion scum. So let's go kill some Legion scum.

So even though I got the Legion pardon, I ended up doing a different quest where you save that guy's family from slavery, which caused my infamy to go back to vilified amongst the Legion and there was basically no way I could do anything near the Legion without everybody attacking me on sight. So I go to Cottonwood Cove, and decide screw it, gotta save these guys. So basically I ran in like Master Chief and killed everybody.

After everyone was slaughtered the family was saved, cool beans. Then my character figures, you know, the ferry's there, maybe I should go up to the Fort and see if I can learn anything about this Platinum Chip thing. So he leaves Boone behind, takes the ferry up the river, and starts fighting his way up the hill towards the fort. When he gets there, he does some recon (read: I tried and failed to kill everybody in the inner fort a couple times, and they wouldn't negotiate either) and decides there's too many to take on and realizes he's completely stupid and naive for thinking he can get tangled up in this on his own. So he backs out of the Fort. Some more guards show up as he's leaving so he takes them out, but accidentally kills or injures a few captive slaves in the process. He tries hopelessly to help them but they run away screaming. He realizes that he had been blinded by his curiosity and sense of justice and had lost sight of the good person he thought he was, and feels remorseful about becoming a killing machine, even though they're pretty bad guys, too many others got hurt in the process. With no other way out of the Fort, he hops on a boat and floats back down the Colorado River, reflecting on what his life has become. His next task will probably be to find Boone back in New Vegas, and then we'll see where he goes from there.

Fallout original is soooooooooo hard.

I had to find a guide to help build a character that wouldn't die five minutes in.

I much prefer fallout 2. Your companions won't bodaciously shoot you in the back.

So in Fallout 3, if you've got good karma, you get these Talon Company assholes attacking you from time to time. They're a bitch to fight, but they have great armor so I perk up every time they show up. I'm exploring a bit and I stumble upon Fort Bannister, which is full of Talon fucks, some of which have missile launchers. Oh shit, I think, this must be their base or something. So I clear out the grounds and loot their shit, and there's one blip on my radar way on the far side of the base. I chase the little bastard down, who was running despite carrying a missile launcher, and he led me to a little hole in the ground that opened to their underground base. Clearing out the base was an enormous pain in the booty and their boss Tabasco or whatever had more health than a deathclaw, but it was pretty cathartic.

Too bad these pricks are still going to pop up whenever I fast travel somewhere.
