Basic vampirism was just awful when Skyrim released, but Dawnguard fixed it somewhat.

Basically you got weaker when you drank blood, but not drinking it made everyone hate you and all your "strengths" and weaknesses magnified.

Well like, what benefits do I get.

I was planning on going all stealth, trying to do some RP kinda stuff with the full 'theif' tree thing and considered being a vampire might help

You'll be fine, it technically was the Dawnguard patch that had the fixes and not the xpac itself, so all up-to-date Skyrims are good to go. You can go talk to anyone as a vampire and they won't automatically attack you.

The biggest benefit to vampirism is that the restoration perk that increases the effect of magic you cast on undead works on yourself, thus buffing your buffs and heals from spells and enchantments.

Also why would I use reanimate, or revnant, or whatever. Are the summons any good.

Not really, at least not until you get to the final spell in the tree: Bound Thrall. It lets you bind almost any NPC of your choice to be your new summon.

Being a Vampire Lord in Dawnguard is a pretty sweet deal. Especially as a stealth based character as vampirism offers a lot of bonuses in that regard. And if things ever don't go your way you can just transform and horribly murder everything around you.

I found Vampire Lords useful in sticky situations sometimes, but more so because it's an easier and faster than running when you don't happen to have a horse with you.

I use a mod to make werewolves less sucky.

they used to

but now you keep your armor rating and defense when you transform

so now they become really physical bruisers who and basically ruin anything once wearing decent armor
