Or just a standard, linear path with traps placed into it.

For example, one section at the top is exposed to open air and a fatal drop. There is a one block wide path with stone wall on one side and a delayed splat on the other. There are also ten or so pressure pads lining that path. Three trigger the pistons that hide behind the wall and push the victim to his demise.
