I personally would like to see arcades that aren't about two hours away from me.

Am I the only one who immediately thought of a Sega Dreamcast controller but more advanced and with a touchscreen from that description?

I immediately thought of the sega dreamcast controller with a VMU in it as well, yes. I also thought of the initial rumours about the Wii's controller flying around, that it was a full touchscreen.

What I want to know is, how will they manage the system? Will they finally put a streamlined online system in place, or keep the friend-codes? Will they do actual quality control, or will they maintain there laissez-faire stance on the shovelware? Are they going to finally get some AAA third party support? Will they create any new intellectual property, or will they simply update all of their franchises?

What I'm getting at here is that, given Nintendo's track record with the DS and the Wii, they have a lot to make up for if they want actual gamers to purchase it and use it frequently. You can have all of the hardware and gadgets you want on your machine, but if you make bad business decisions, people won't buy it.

Over the recent years Nintendo have been aiming their marketing machinery at the potential customers that Sony and MS have overlooked; Namely women and families.

While this may have been alienating hardcore gamers somewhat, I don't think I would say Nintendo expanding their market to include a wider audience than the kind of people games were traditionally aimed at was a 'bad business decision' - especially considering the Wii's control system has made video games accessible from the very young to the very elderly and the focus on 'family-oriented gaming' has made video games a realistic alternative to movies for a family spending a night in.

Also, the whole 'video games for physical fitness' thing.

Yeah it definitely wasn't a bad business decisions. We do fall in the 'hardcore' gamer group though, and if they don't start paying more attention to us again, I'll probably refrain from buying their stuff again, and I'm certain others with me. If they can keep the interest of the casual gamers, this won't harm their business that much, it's just said to see the longest time player succumbing to commercialism so much. I understand why they've appealed to the casual gamers and it was a very smart move on their part, but it means we aren't their target audience any more.

Personally I'm doubtful that I'll get the next Nintendo home platform - I haven't played my Wii for the longest time.

I'll stick with Nintendo for portable gaming but I'm generally leaning more toward PC gaming these days (not that I've played Minecraft all that much lately either).

Nintendo can't decide that.

Nintendo creates a lot of new IPs.

The Wii and the DS are the most commercially successful platforms of the current generation.

They were commercially successful yes, but at the cost of moving towards another demogaphic and alienating a good amount of long time fans. If they want to get those fans back, then they'll have to do some stuff differently.

"Long time fans" need to stop bawwing and deal w/ it. Nintendo is still making great games.

I sincerely doubt that the touch-screen controller will be the only one available.
