I have to agree with Plasma. Your arguments are basically like saying the Sniper is overpowered because he can beat every class when you put them at the opposite ends of a long, flat map. I can name a way for every class to take down a pyro.

Also, you idea to balance the pyro is incredibly unbalanced. If the Pyro had both a slower moving speed and shorter range, it would be almost useless. Every single class except a heavy and maybe a demoman and soldier would be able to just walk away. The pyro would become useless against any class with 100% speed or more because they could just backpedal away while firing. and the pyro, due to its slower speed and shorter range, would not be able to catch them.

On an unrelated note, I hate it when, in an RPG or related type game, you discover that choices you made early in the game have put you at a huge disadvantage.

That's why a pyro is not suppose to chase any classes. Ambush, ambush, ambush. The flamethrower does enough damage close range, that if you catch any class off guard you will be able to kill him! The nerf wouldmake it so the pyro HAS to rely on ambushing. With the state of pyros now any hyped 10-year can go ape shit in a group of enemies and actually have a good chance of survival. There's no need to ambush, just charge and ignite it's ALL they need to do. Oh sure there's compression blast but the pyros lack of depth makes it a very simple, very boring , and very overpowered class.

How to help teammates with pryo:

1. Use the airblast to blast stickies alway from a friendly sentry
2. Airblast fire from burning teammates.
3. Flare gun snipers so the snipers go back to get health.

Whoops, sorry! I forgot that when you get ambushed, its completely forbidden to attempt to run away.

No it most certainly does not. To do that without giving the opponent time to run away, the flamethrower would have to outright kill the opponent in two seconds flat! THAT is most certainly not balanced!

Pyros that charge straight into unpreoccupied enemies, on nearly all cases, don't survive. That's pretty darn undisputable.

http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Pyro

Look at the damage calculation for the flamethrower

22.5 particles a second, 4-6.8 damage per particle.

That combined with the after burn is enough to kill any 125-150 hp class in a little under 2 seconds, 3 if they run away.

Seconded.

Although really only when its a permanent disadvantage (aka: putting points in a stat or skill that is entirely useless) as opposed to a temporary disadvantage (aka: putting points in a stat or skill that is useless now, but that will be useful in the future that you'd put points in it sooner or later).

Or if the RPG actually has a good levelling up system whereby the time it takes to level up against the standard enemies for your level is constant, rather than the most common method of "low levels are fast, high levels take days to get", well then it's not such a bother either.
