The most logical explanation I can think of is that the character Knack has a lot of moving parts on him that also seem to be physics objects. Combining that with the rest of the game (enemies and friendly characters moving and fighting and talking) could take some serious power, especially when he's (based on snippets of the story) going to grow to be absolutely gigantic.

WAIT A SEC

They showed parts of this game being played on the Vita.

Huh. Well maybe it's just the dev's personal preference for consoles. I mean, they did produce a whole slew of other Playstation.

That Knack game does look pretty neat, but my question about it is:

What exactly is it about the game that requires it be on hardware as intense as the PS4?

The only things I can think of are either Knack is made up of so many polygons that it needs the extra hardware or that the game absolutely NEEDS the touchpad thing.
Both of which seem like really shitty reasons.

Seems to be built out of a lot different moving particles, if those all have physics it could be quite intensive on the hardware. What a weird question though, why are exclusives exclusives? Because of exclusivity deals of course. Nothing sells a console like exclusives, and the big three know this. A lot of exclusives have no other reason not to be exclusive, other than the devs thinking the multiplat sales won't be worth the cost of porting.

Besides which, despite the non-realistic style the more powerful hardware will still be able to provide more detail and better lightning and such.

Erik Kain posted an article about how the conference was a mixed bag and makes a good point about the whole social features thing:

Erik Kain wrote:
Others, however, may make more use of [the social features that are put into current and next-gen consoles]. It would have been, to put it quite bluntly, insanely stupid of Sony to ignore this trend—even if their conveying of the social features during the event last night was flawed. (And I believe it was flawed, because it placed too much emphasis on social features.)

Does Facebook integration mean that the PS4 will be a Farmville emulator? Of course not. Sony isn’t putting the sort of horsepower into its next console that we heard about last night to deliver gamers a Facebook-game machine. This is just an added perk. Whether it will sell systems is an open question, but there’s no reason to believe it will harm the core gaming experience.

Just as the gaming industry (and the cheddar behind that industry) is too in love with social media, mobile, and every other trend we see these days—and likely why Sony made such a fuss over it last night—gamers are too hostile and overly concerned over social integration.

Social will be an option for those who make use of it, and will likely open the door for an increased use of the PS4 as an eSports device. Improved social functionality should also make match-making and online competitive play more streamlined. For those who want to opt-out, just opt-out (like me!)

Beyond that, it’s much ado about nothing.

It's kind of funny how during the conference everyone was like 'LOLOL LOOK AT THIS THIS IS AWFUL"

But now in retrospect everyone's like "hey this looks like it might be okay maybe".

Just goes to show how everything looks worse at a gaming conference.

Because during conferences, you're actively looking for flaws and downplaying whatever good stuff is announced.

That article also confirms Witcher 3 for PS4
Quote:
“Combining CD Projekt RED’s unique artistic vision and tech with the capabilities of PlayStation 4 will make The Witcher 3 a truly next-gen RPG,” said Dam Kiciński of CDP. ”With Sony’s new hardware and our new engine, there are no limits to what we can create in the process of realizing our vision for Geralt’s dark fantasy world.”

They also said the PC version would be the best, so much for "SUPERCHARGED PC"

Supercharged PC just means they will optimise the PC architecture they use. Of course it won't outperform high end PCs at the time of release, and it definitely won't be able to match them in functionality.

So apparently there's a placeholder price for the PS4 at some retailers set at $899

If it ends up being true, color me not surprised.

Color Sony bankrupt and its board members hung and disembowled in the streets too. There's a goddamn limit

And other retailers had it for 399 pounds. They have no way of knowing the price yet.

That's the placeholder price retails are setting. We're talking about the real price which hasn't been set yet. Read the posts before calling anyone a chump.

The Erik Kain article I posted talked about how it's most likely that Sony and Microsoft are in a Cold War of pricing; neither company wants to show their price first and have people go "What the heck man?!"
