Gen 2 shinies: oh dude, its weird,i got this growlithe, but its yellow and spakled, what the fuck is this?

Gen 5 and 6:oh hey,its a shiny dialga, better put it in with the other boxes of shinies.

when did it become so easy to get shinies?

What's a gen 2?
I'm a gen 3 kid. But then I went so long without a shiny that by the time I finally got one I knew what it was...
For perspective: I got my first game, LeafGreen, in 2007. I found my first shiny by accident in 2010. No joke.
Am I just really unlucky when it comes to luck-based things?

I've been playing Cockfighting Society since 1998 and have never had a legit wild shiny.

I've only ever found two shinies. A Ponyta in SoulSilver and a Pumpkaboo in X.

They did actually double the chance of getting a shiny in Gen 6, IIRC.

I am also in this situation. (Except 1999 since Red came out a year after US in EU.)

Not kidding here, me and two other friends who got HG/SS found a shiny Ponyta at some point in their game.

Also I just realized that every shiny I've ever gotten was traded away and/or is too far back to be plopped into a newer game.

I've found two. A slugma, and one of those grey Psychics that look like idols from Black and White

Gothita, Gothorita, and Gothitelle? Meh. Rough guess. Prolly some of the weirdest Psychic designs I've seen in a while. Judging by names you'd think they'd be Dark type... and a Dark/Psychic non-legend sounds cool.
*pushes Inkay line aside*
I remember Gothitas being especially annoying due to their low exp yield but at the same time being able to 2-hit most of my team with Fake Tears and Psybeam. Also they had a tendency to not go down in one hit, the little jerks.

EDIT: Maybe Elgyem? One of my faves, shame he has such low stats even on max evo, I really like him.

Here comes Silv with her list of wild shinies: (not counting shines I found in hordes, chaining, friend safari,or DexNaving)
Gloom (Ruby), Bellsprout (SS), 2 Weepingbell (HG), Rattata (LG), Tentacool (FR), Tentacruel (SS), Skiddo (Y), Pachirisu (X), Graveler (Diamond).

Bred Shinies:
Tyrunt (ORAS), Aron (X/Y), Dieno (X/Y), Zorua (B/W), Inkay (X/Y), Sneasel (ORAS), Cacnea (ORAS). Cacnea was actually accidental. I didn't even have a foreign pokemon.

In total I have about 70 shinies from various means. Events, GTS, DexNav, Wondertrade, etc.

I really like hunting shinies. But I also like to breed competitive pokemon. Sometimes they overlap.

I love how the Pokemon thread has this same discussion every dozen pages or so.

That and the "favorite starter", "favorite game", and "what gen did you start in" discussions. And I'm sure there's more, lol.

Occasionally we discuss spinoffs, too, but yeah this thread is really cyclical. And that cycle's part of a larger cycle, where it becomes a much more interesting hive of activity whenever a new pokemon game comes out.
