Everyone's playing XY and ORAS and I'm sitting here with White 2 unable to convince my parents to allow me to buy a 3DS. Woo.

No one can control what you buy with your own cheddar

Unless it's not actually your own cheddar

Well, BW2 are still my personal favorite Cockfighting Society games. But then their Wi-Fi interwebz capabilities were knocked out before they were even two years old. :psyduck:

I beat Steven today. He was actually less challenging than I was imagining. I don't know, I just see Mega Evolution and get a little nervous.

Protip: If you want to play Mega Metagross like a chump, Magnezone is a great choice. He can't do shit to it.

Guess we can be glad that Nintendo has their own online infrastructure since Wii U and 3DS. For Wii and DS, they had contracted some other company for online services and those contracts ran out and weren't renewed (as successor hardware was already on the market). Chances are that this time around, Nintendo will not terminate online features as quickly.

I didn't play Black/White 1/2 or X/Y, but got back into the Cockfighting Society fever with ORAS. I got both of them, but didn't get to start Omega Ruby yet. About 140 hours into Alpha Sapphire, there's still the three Regimons to catch. I got a little lazy with the braille script, so I skipped them...
It took me a while to figure out you need to get some steps to make certain miracle islands appear for some more legendary 'mons. I didn't take my 3DS on a walk since 2013, gee.

Those Mega Evolutions, I don't really use them. There's so many though, they should've given the stones a dedicated bag pocket.

I have yet to beat the elite four a second time, they got really tough for my team.

I never liked that visual braille OR the fact that Tate n' Liza are back to being all easy and such. I mean, what kind of combo moves/strategies can you do with a Solrock and a Lunatone?? In Emerald, there was a Claydol with a pretty strong Earthquake move, but then its allies were always Immune to it. Why not keep that? HGSS borrowed a bit from Crystal so why not ORAS from Emerald?

I don't like the braille much either. In GSC, they had the unown, which were pretty fun as you had the "ancient script" aspect paired with still being readable without needing a lookup table.

Personally, I usually had quite a struggle with Tane & Liza in the original Sapphire, haha.

I like it. It's a fun challenge.

Y'know, challenge. Something that hasn't been in a Pokemon game since Gen 4.

That puzzle in the original game inspired me to try learning Braille.

I don't remember all the letters, but I do know quite a few. I think it's cool when a puzzle inspires you to learn something you might not otherwise look at.

Gen V was actually pretty hard once you got to the end and aftergame for a while.
And the braille thing isn't really a challenge like you say. It's just you don't know how to do it so it gives the ILLUSION of difficulty. Like... like trying make a cake without all the ingredients, so you have to go get the ingredients from your store or neighbor like how you ask friends and internet to figure out the Regi "puzzle." You don't usually solve a puzzle by just slapping your question into a search engine and pressing enter. (well technically nowdays most people DO but you get what I mean.) What if you lived in a poor neighborhood with few neighbors and no internet? Then how are you supposed to figure it out? Also, can I mention this is VISUAL BRAILLE. Does Nintendo or Gaem Frik really expect some random person playing a VIDEO game to know braille?? Because last time I checked that was a writing style for blind people! What kind of blind person would be playing a mostly visual game???? Honestly I feel there are many things that would've made a gosh darn better "puzzle" than the braille message somewhere out there.
Also I do not see how it's fun. I am sorry.
In fact, the REAL puzzle is actually getting to that stupid spot. The part with the braille instructions is really just baking the cake!

Also this...

Found it while searching online... NOW you can hate me.

I'd say pokemon games never were challenging, it's just that as a kid you sucked at it more so it felt harder.

Okay, yes, Pokemon games are definitely not difficult by nature, but there was some challenge even for people who weren't 12 and under. In fact, people were complaining about how hard Gen 4 was so much that it caused this casualization that's been going on since Gen 5.

Of course Gen 6 was much worse than Gen 5 in that regard, apparently because of smartphone games. Seriously. Look it up.

They actually put a braille alphabet into the main braille cave in ORAS. At the place where they have the inscriptions about the ancient history, there's some ABC DEF blabla inscriptions, too. The original RSE had a braille alphabet in the printed manual.
Still, a lookup table is no puzzle, it's just work. Same as when I can crack your password by using a rainbow table - where's the fun in that?
