You know what really makes me facepalm more? People who play the same hero OVER and OVER and then try to act big just because they're good with one hero but absolutely blows with every other hero.
Although it's funny when someone else picks that one hero and then said person starts complaining about how he should play it.
Moral of the story is, a little variety goes a long way.
I would argue that the order in which one learns to play League of Legends starts with your champion's skills, as they're usually the easiest thing to comprehend and skill combinations are hardly diverse, with only about 3 ideal ways to do things at most with a given champion. From there, you learn to support those skills with items until you have an adaptive build that plays to the strengths of the champion as you want to play them. Somewhere along the line before your build is perfected, you'll mostly likely figure out the laning mechanics like last hitting and zoning, and possibly jungling depending on who you chose. Lastly (and far too many level 30s fail to grasp these) are the advanced concepts like situational awareness and teamwork that extends beyond your immediate lane partner, setting people up for and protecting yourself from ganks, and doing your job in 5v5 situations.
I won't deny that sticking to one's playstyle is important, but if someone is good, they're likely to be at least decent with nearly every champion that they don't play on a regular basis. Many of the things you learn while playing a single champ can easily be applied to quite a few others, even if the connection isn't immediately obvious, and even a completely unfamiliar champ still plays by the same rules that everyone else does, so it's not like you're suddenly going to stop last-hitting or sticking with your team when the game gets to that point.
I tell people that I play 5 champions, and I own about 11. If I see someone playing Akali poorly, I probably will get a little irritated by it, but I try to offer constructive advice instead of complaints, even if I'm practically chanting "He's doing it wrong" in my head.
...Of course, I'm hardly representative of the LoL community in the first place.
