Instacheck is now unusable along with Battle Analyzer. Why did GameFreak have to eliminate both? Battle Analyzer was cheaty and unfair and I'm glad it's banned, but why instacheck? Gamefreak can obviously encrypt one part of the wifi system (the GTS) without encrypting other parts.

hell yeah I was wondering if they would do that. I didn't count instacheck as 100% cheating since it's just shinies but good to see BA gone.

Instacheck was really useful for checking IVs as well. That's how I got my 5 IV shiny Vulpix and Axew. Talking to the guy in Kiloude City wasn't awful and tedious, but compared to Instacheck it did take longer.

Edit: I arranged a trade with someone last night to hatch a shiny Mawile for him and now the poor guy can't find the right egg. I've been hatching Mawiles for him for an hour. I'm determined to help him get the right egg now that shinies are hard to get again.

Their reasoning is probably that it ruins immersion and reduces pokemons to mere numbers.

That's how pokemon has been for certain people ever since the metagame was cracked. Look at all the RNG exploiting people did in the previous generations. This just provided metagame access to a wider fanbase. Even now, hardcore metagamers are figuring out how to use Spinda's spots and a hexadecimal system to get more shiny eggs.

Edit: if anything, this turns pokemon into even more numbers for those determined folks.

I know, but from what I gather GameFreak doesn't like that way of playing the game.

In my opinion, just because they don't like it doesn't mean they should ban it for everyone. Plus, Instacheck also helped prevent trade scams. It was useful for more than just numbers.

probably because that's a server to 3DS data exchange and Instacheck/Battle Analyzer are peer to peer. If they encrypt the peer to peer, it affects both.



Same. BA pretty much required attention, and the day after it came out ranked battles were suspended in the game, so you know this was an issue. Whether they actually cared about Instacheck or not is to be seen.


Instacheck did more to promote trading and discussion than pretty much any other thing GF has tried. You might trade for trade evos and exclusives or to store your team, but not everyone really did much more than that unless they were trading competitive scraps or wondertrading, and that only really happened this gen.

I mean, people had to depend on others to get their shinies and trust that they wouldn't get fucked in the process, and a lot of people traded their spares to others that also wanted that shiny. Definitely a nicer side of the community.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if GF didn't learn from this for next gen. I could see them making an instacheck-like method of trading around eggs to get shinies, like maybe halving the chance of getting a shiny every time it's traded before hatching. This way, you just hatch the egg beforehand, make sure it has the stats and stuff you want if you care about it, reset, and then find a group that'll pass it along until you get a near guaranteed shiny.



GF hasn't made any statement, and from their actions guess that they were mainly against BA (considering they took down the ranked battles the day after it came out and then a couple of weeks later patched BA). We can only assume whether they actually cared about Instacheck, given they didn't disable trading and that Instacheck was going strong for quite awhile. I'm sure that will be an argument that will go on for a long time, and I doubt GF will ever clarify whether they liked/hated/didn't care about Instacheck or not.
