Its kind of weird how real the Pokemon antagonists have been getting

Like, Cyrus straight up wanted to become a god and create a new world in his image

N challenged the ethics of capturing and battling Pokemon

And now Lysandre is talking about how overpopulation is going to end with the world destroying itself

I'm seriously wondering what the next antagonist is gonna be about

well they didn't delve too hard into the ethics of genetics, maybe Z will be more focused on that with mega evos?

I want a more morally gray game where you can take either side and still have people from the general public rooting for you (though other people would not).

Like a Team Magma/Aqua situation where you can join one group, with the caveat that neither is actually as dumb as Team Magma or Aqua?

I'd like something like that, but it seems like it'd be out of place in a game like Pokemon. It's still technically a kid's game; fare like that would be too heavy.

I don't think it would be too hard for kids to see that there are two sides to a conflict and either one could win. In fact, I think kids understand more than a lot of media producers give them credit for. Companies just don't seem like they're willing to risk deviating from the standard black/white morality formula.

I wouldn't want that kind of thing because I feel like it WOULD become a black and white morality system, and deviate too much from what Pokemon is about.

It's not the bit about there being two sides to a conflict, but more about how that sort of thing is handled. There's three ways opposing sides are done in games: Good/Evil, Grey/Grey, Evil/Evil.

What you're suggesting is the Grey/Grey variant, where neither side is better than the other. This means that both of them have plausible ideals but also that they have darkness to them. They both do bad things to each other in order to try and beat their opposition. That's what I mean by heavy fare in a kid's game; you would be asking a kid to do some terrible things to the other side simply because they are the other side, not for any sense of justice, or retribution, or good. It's purely for the advancement of "their" side.

They would understand that, I'm certain of it, but I don't want them to understand it because they would be influenced by it. I don't want them to get the idea in mind the ideals of us/them or "ends justify the means" because they do not have the experience or maturity to counter-balance them.

You didn't help them by choice, other than choosing which of the versions to buy, it was scripted into the plot of each game that one team featured more strongly as an antagonizing force. You fought the dominant team, not let them get their way. That's important, it was still the Good/Evil way, with the player being Good.

Time to IV breed a Karrablast

This oughta be fun, considering I don't have a Karrablast or any pokemon in its egg group in any of my friend safaris so no guaranteed perfect IVs

by fun I mean torture

EDIT: oh wait that's a lie I have galvantula in one of my safaris

hooray

The Vulpix I so carefully bred doesn't know Hypnosis because the parents forgot Hypnosis in the day-care before it was an egg.

Hmm, the only Mega Gardevoir can learn that would profit from her Pixilate would be Hyper Beam. Should I give Gardevoir that instead of Moonblast or just use regular Gardevoir?
