Haha, I actually find that apart from their higher skill level (which I presume is just my own cognitive bias) I prefer to be matched with Japanese players. They actually have pretty solid connections when I go up against them, and their timezone is only an hour behind mine so they're always everywhere.
Enough so that it takes me an unnaturally long time to find any matches when they have a splatfest, as I mentioned before.

Part of the reason I learned to read Hiragana was so that I could yell at people when they're better than I am.
It's also been hilarious, since I've found someone named ふたなり before.

NA Splatfest is on and Decepticons are DOMINATING

Been crushing Level 30s as a Level 7, these guys seem super weak

Yeah same.
I swear these guys don't even try to dodge my Ink Mines.
Also Bamboozler was a disappointment.To me, it's basically a less versatile, slightly more ranged Slosher. I'll stick with the bucket, thank you.

I usually get matched up with all Japanese Splatoon players, it's fun. The skill level is so high, so it's hard to climb up in ranked but I find it very interesting.

I am not doing so hot in this Splatfest. ;-; I keep disconnecting! Sometimes before matches start, sometimes within the match too. I don't know what it is. I am also losing a lot. Sorry Autobots. :< (Not that I have much of an affiliation towards either Autobots or Decepticons, but I just chose Autobots because they're good guys.)
