25% are a joke, dunno why mod creators plunge themselves into that.

I wonder how bandcamp et.al. manage to send small amounts of cheddar to people, while steam says that's too expensive.

I just unsubscribed to all my my workshop proletariats and re-downloaded them on the nexus. Chucked a few bucks at the Static Mesh Improvement guy since he had a donate button up. Whoop whoop.

Oh yeah, I hadn't even considered that. Because proletariats are made for free and fun, they're not typically under the protection of any sort of copyright or software licensing. Good luck sorting that shit out.

Haha, what a terrible idea man.

Now, if they were proletariats like Falskaar, I'd think about actually giving a few bucks to the creators.

But since there are seemingly people believing they can make a quick buck by selling some weapon model or even just a reskin for 2 Dollars a piece, I say let them try and realize barely anyone is going to want to pay them for that.

And maybe valve will completely stop the whole thing if they get flooded by "Yo, someone stole my mod and is now selling it on your shop. Stop that." complaints.

And then there's that copyright thing. Can't put copyright protected stuff on there, no anime swords, no GoT characters, etc.

Valve and Bethesda are backing down from paid Skyrim proletariats. Anyone who purchased a mod will receive a refund.

It... It's true.

daisies, Valve, good on you for actually listening to the community. It's so rare to see companies completely backtrack on their decisions based on consumer feedback.

Now, we'll see if they come out with a "donate button" feature or rework this into something similar... but for now, looks like the community wins.

I honestly wasn't expecting this to happen. Don't usually see companies respond to what their consumer base wants so quickly and precisely.

Understatement of the Year

Still though, good on Valve and Bethesda for realizing almost immediately that they messed up big time.

I agree. I was looking forward to playing this game, even though I'm a pansy who has never played a Silent Hill game before.

Konami has also intentionally delisted themselves from the New York Stock Exchange. Alongside the news of canceling Silent Hills, It has been noted that Konami has other investments, such as health clubs/spas and music labels to keep them afloat, but canceling such a big game is not something that inspires investors to be confident in the future of the company.

Regarding the Valve Paid proletariats controversy, P4R published their skewering of the company after a month-long hiatus, just two days before Valve rescinded.

I guess they listened to the people this time? Now let's implement a way for decent mod creators to get compensated. The paid model was never going to be okay here, but donations work just fine. I think donations work better since we can choose which proletariats really need the support and which aren't so great.

You know what else a donation model has the potential for? An incentive system.

Picture this: proletariats are free, but there is an option to donate cheddar to the mod authors. The amount you donate earns little digital prizes like badges or hats or whatever it is steam players would throw willingly throw cheddar at.

And all donations go to the mod authors. No cheddar splits.

I always imagined paying for proletariats to be something along the lines of Patreon or Kickstarter, you can donate if you want to show support, and you get valuables like extra small content like...donating 1 dollar to an armor mod for Skyrim would give you another option for crafting the differently designed hat.

It'd be pirated out the booty, but it's a nice way for modders to get cheddar from what they enjoy.

An escrow system to ensure that cheddar made by stolen proletariats goes to the original developer is something that was suggested on a Steam group.

As someone who wastes plenty of currency on Steam trading cards and badges, this would totally work.
