The gym designs are different in Platinum and the story has some new elements.
Pokemon has a story?
Sure it does. All Pokemon stories go like this:
You are a kid. You want to be the pokemon master. You get a pokemon. There are bad guys. They like to do bad stuff. Your rival is a bast.
From what I can tell, the only major improvements are a minor change in storyline, the minus world (heh), faster surfing, slightly faster battles, better online battling system (I'll stick to PBR for online, it's more fun and you can use your opponents pokemon offline), more SinnohDex pokemon, and some graphical improvements. Am I missing anything there?

On the DSi thing - bear in mind you won't be able to transfer your 'Fire Red' Pokemon into D/P/Pt without a GBA port.
Yeah... I never had a GBA. I'm not missing much there.
At this point, the only way I'd be getting a regular DS is if they're significantly cheaper. And if I take an interest in GBA games again (aka: someone starts re-selling them), then I can just get a GBAmicro and use the family DS for transferring between games. Or just use PokeSav, which I'll use for the previous gens too.
Yeah, I feel no remorse over doing that.
Actually, if I'm not missing any major improvements, I'm better off with Diamond. Especially as Platinum isn't compatible with MyPokemonRanch yet, and may not be later...
Oh yeah, Ranch. I plan on getting that too. Simply because I'm a collector type, and I really want something to do with those weaker Pokemon besides having them sit in a box. Plus, a storage system for Pokemon I don't plan on using is always handy.
Plus, a legal Mew is always a good thing!
