we could do a trap/ BONUS PASSAGE type pressure plate system where you stand on a pressure plate/ hit button and a passage opens up that is either death in a box or a type of ladder to a platform above the maze that allows you to temporarily light up the entire maze via button piston system

Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that I've started on the underground city now? Because I have. I went way south, past the mushroom island, and found a nice big mountain range that's uninhabited at this point.

I'll also be building an artificial mountain side to encase part of it.
