Is it just me or was Shadow the Hedgehog a decent game marred by some poor game design and gameplay decisions? Of course the whole "edgy" thing was lame and really tarnished Sonic's image before '06 even happened but at least Shadow played like a very weak Sonic Adventure Battle 2. The guns and swords were clumsy as hell but at least you could ignore them for the most part. I actually like it more than Sonic Heroes which I think really sucked.

I have to agree, yeah. While I wouldn't call it a great game by any means (the stages were still pretty boring, and a lot of control elements were clunky as hell even outside of the weapon sustem) it definitely could have been a lot worse.

I was a bit too young when it came out to remember many specific details, but I definitely didn't hate the experience of a single run-through.

That said, I feel mostly the same way about Heroes' gameplay. I like both games within reason, but I don't think it's particularly unfair that the rest of the series overshadows them.

I rather liked Heroes, the team mechanic wasn't implemented too badly and while it was gimmicky it wasn't a bad game by any means.
ShtH was just offensive. The entire concept is just really really offensive.

Lost World is a weird beast because it's just so different from every other game. It's not bad, but I feel like it would have been better off not being a Sonic game. It's definitely enjoyable, and I really like the general level design and gameplay, but it would have really benefited from being slowed down a bit and made into a new IP.

As it is, it feels like Lost World was designed for Mario fans, not Sonic fans. Like they're trying to get that market interested in Sonic games.

Well yeah, but aside from the concept I don't think ShtH was much worse than Heroes. They both had decent gameplay but I thought the stages in both were a bit more boring than (the good ones from) the two Adventure games. I'd describe both of them as relatively underwhelming, personally, but not bad.

And I agree on Lost World being more like Mario than it is like Sonic, but I think you're being too forgiving of its flaws. When you were allowed to go fast it was great, but I don't recall enjoying any slower-paced level except for the one with the fruit juicers .(in both versions) Plus the parkour mechanics were positively broken in the Wii U version, so where stages might have been interesting platforming challenges they just turned into a tedious series of jumps.

I will give the game what it's due for gameplay ideas. The 3DS version shows that parkour could have worked very well, and with a few tweaks the Wii U version probably would have felt immensely satisfying just to run around in. Both games can be, and pretty frequently are, enjoyable games, but it's the stage design that really turns the middle three fourths of the game into a drag for me.

Wow Archie Comics somehow makes Boom look better
I thought the Boom designs were okay before but the comic versions look different in a good way

I need to start reading the Archie Comics Sonic

I gotta say, I was a bit hopeful for Boom but the 3DS demo really turned me off to it. It's worse than Lost World, and it's in 2D! Seems like we'll never have another good Rush clone like Colors for DS. I hope the Wii U version is like Jesus in a monster truck, because otherwise Sonic has failed once again, not surprisingly.

Still can't wait for the show, though.

What

I can see how you wouldn't like a pretty dumbed down version of a decent Wii game

But did you seriously just shit on Rush and Rush Adventure

No

No

I changed my mind you can't have an opinion anymore

rush was bodaciously the last good game they put out and it was still a hold-right fest

rush adventure was 90% dialogue, unleashed wii was the shittiest sonic game ever bodaciously the worst, colors DS was ludicrously bad and continued the trend of dimps' sonic games actually getting worse and worse graphically, and generations had potential but all the classic stages were the same stage as the original and classic sonic had a homing attack and it was awful and jesus christ why did they pick the least memorable boss fights for modern sonic what the fuck

if you like holding right and not actually playing a game that's fine all power to you but do not begin to pretend that dimps has a good track record, advance 1, 3, and rush are fucking anomalies in their cavalcade of doing worse for the franchise than sega ever did
