Aw, dammit. It was a typo (if you were talking to me). I know it could be misinterpreted as sarcasm in the doge style (such info, very help, etc.), but it was genuinely a typo. I've been also doing homework for the last four hours so not been paying too close attention to what I type here.

I GENUINELY APPRECIATE THE INFORMATION FROM BOTH SIDES. Thank you!

No matter what you think of gamgergate, games journalism IS crap that doesn't hold up to any kind of actual journalism standard in many cases.

Which is why I dont participate in checking any of it out. :) If a game is good (The true reason why game journalism should even exist) I tend to hear it through the grapevine anyways. From folks I know. Like you wierdos :P This tactic also has the true bonus of being gaming journalisms true enemy. Since I am not actually checking these things out and forming an opinion, they generally hold no sway and most importantly, I do not advertise it, thus promoting them further.

In the end, whether or not you hate something, you only spread it by mentioning it to other people, and thus it spreads and takes longer to die. If you simply dont give a pop flyin' about it, it dies.

I don't know about the pricing system on there, but it does give funds to the mod creators, which they were desperately scrabbling for with adfly links and other such things.

Also I'm fairly certain there will be a pirating community dedicated to proletariats.

Yeah, except that's a questionably legal action done in response to this. You can't justify proletariats not being free by saying "you can just pirate them".

Oh, I'm not. Just stating that it WILL happen. You can't take something that used to be free and start charging for it and expect people to go quietly.

I just thing that if someone puts work, time and effort into (legally) creating something (legal), they should be free to sell it.

Doesn't mean it's the cool and fellowy way to live your life, but who am I to judge? As with so many things, I see it this way: When it is not essential to life and I don't agree on its price, I won't buy it. For example, I don't agree with the pricing policy of ebooks. Germany just did the amazing thing of making ebooks bound to a fixed price as they did with real-paper books before. I also disagree with download versions of games being equally or even more expensive than their retail counterparts. Yes, I broke that rule when I bought Animal Crossing New Leaf as a download.

But yes, you're right, free software appears to be regressing. It's so much easier to monetize your work these days. Putting even more things into the hands of those with cheddar, deminishing access for those who don't.

Still, it should be my decision to put a price on my work.

I'm interested in what the price split between Bethesda/modders is.

It seems cool that modders can get some reward for their work but I'm worried that this will start a trend where everyone sells their proletariats rather than creating free content.

I can see some modders adding a free version, and a payed one with some extra stuff/Fixes.

Yeah, I'm not really seeing the issue here. This is Valve throwing a bone to the modding community. I have absolutely no problem with content creators getting another venue by which to derive income, especially if the new venue caters to people who previously had no (or very poor) options.

The problem is that this is something that has the potential to spiral out of control. I can understand maybe upwards of .75 cents for a mod but some are costing around $5.

A pay-what-you-can/donate model would have been warmly welcomed, but setting up a wall for something that has been free for years seems...wrong.

I don't use the Steam Workshop anymore since switching to Nexus but holy moly I hope this won't spill over to there.
