Good point but that still doesn't make HDMI HD a thing.

this might actually be the reason I'm totally okay with it
it really is confined only to the sky (and by proxy, things framed by the sky) and it actually does look really nice in motion, i don't think pictures or video cameras can really show you how goddamn gorgeous Wind Waker looks running at 60fps and actually about a hundred times more colorful

if it was a more SD game, it might be a problem, honestly

but it's not, and it looks good

Great. I already need a Wii U. Now I need an HD TV so I can actually play WWHD without cringing every time I look at my shitty TV screen and imagining how much better it could look.

I went to the Nintendo E3 demo event today, and now I will tell you about Wind Waker HD because you might care maybe.

The demo had two parts, "Town Stroll" (where you wander around Windfall and just enjoy things) and the boss fight against the Helmaroc King. I only did the boss battle part because I was actually the last person to play and they were winding it all down for the day.

The controls were good. First time holding a WiiU game pad and it was totally easy to use. Controls are configured as you'd expect (B for sword, A for dodge/roll, etc) so there was no transition difficulties. You can change your weapons on the fly by using the game pad's touch screen to slide it from your inventory to one of your equipment slots. You can also aim certain weapons with the game pad's gyroscope, and it's really fluid and accurate. I know the OoT 3DS had that, but it always felt wonky on there. No, this time it's super great and it totally improves the stupidly slow grappling hook/bow aiming the GC version had. Remember how bad it was to aim the bow?! Well now they fixed it and it's great.

Visually, it was solid. I know everyone was going on about bloom and whatnot before, but seeing as how this fight occurs at night, I could see most of the models for how they really were. Galaxy Man is correct in that seeing this game in motion is much better than stills. For instance, the Helmaroc King. That boss is very motion-heavy (wings, tail) and it looked pretty good against the background. I remember everything in the GC version had a barely visible cartoon "outline" at some angles; I couldn't find any of that here.

There is also the improved color/lighting. Back in GC, there were a lot of things that I thought were just superbright colors because cartoonz. But now I can see that they are actually glowing, like the Helmaroc King's eyes and tail. Yes, his tail is glowing apparently. The spotlights for the fortress still looked cartoony but honestly it wasn't a big deal.

Also when you break Helmaroc King's mask, the broken shards remain on the battlefield. I don't think it did that before??

This was my long post about WW HD. I hope it was informative.

Yeah I went back today and fought Helmarok. Everything in this game is just fucking gorgeous.
I actually managed to beat him well enough to get applauded, which was pretty nice.

Apparently, depending on how this year went, this might become a regular thing, and might be expanded next year.

So, yay?
