A maze tower sounds good, with only the occasional torch.
If we cover the ground in slabs, no mobs will spawn either.

Maybe we can have like the top of the tower spawn mobs via darkness or something and at the top is an enchantment table with the highest level enchantments available or something?

Also I think we should make it so the tower starts at bedrock level as in we should clear out maybe a chunk or 3 square down to bedrock

Missing the whole point of a maze tower.

I just like my mazes to stay in one piece.
And IMO a maze should just be confusing, with the occasional trap.

Creepers would ruin a maze even if it fixes itself over time

You'd have protection on the maze anyway so people can't just tunnel their way out or in.

The only defences I can think of are walls that are three blocks thick and filled with lava in the middle, or obsidian.

Isn't there a servermod that works as a building protector?

Towny.

If you have a town, you can claim any piece of land anywhere as an outpost.
I did it to TT's End island for a few minutes to troll him. He couldn't touch it, i was free to abuse it.

the bastardized events of that day....

ANYWHO

So we've decided on an positively spiffing creation of a large tower structure of sorts with a labrynth contained within its depths that will reward the player handsomely upon completion of the trial.

SPIFFING I SAY.

TIME TO STAKE OUT THE PLOT!

It would appear that there's an incredibly juicy bit of flat, unclaimed land located in the direct proximity of the "spawn village"

we're totally using that

and nobody can stop us

alright so i shaved off the first two layers of dirt for the dig zone that we'll clear out to the bedrock.

if its solid land (no caves) the whole way down...

we've got 24,000 blocks to smash through
