That happens to me all the time.

go through every lit path there is and after 30 minutes you'll eventually find it.

Also got out with 34 Gold ore, over 100 silver ore, 5 obsidian, 6 diamonds, and a shitton of redstone.

I had that happen, too. Except it was right next to the dungeon room and I had yet to develop any sort of trap. And, as an added bonus, I picked that particular time to completely run out of torches. Joy.

What is with those people that got to test the slip.

All they do it bumble around for a while like retards, occasionally mining a block or two and then falling in some lava and burning to death.

god dammit I hate building underground

trying to build something as simple as a corridor will be the death of me

I never try to build underground because of the lava everywhere. But, I don't know if you know about this tip or not, but if you come across gravel while digging, you can clear it out faster using torches. You won't get flint, but it's a bit easier than clearing the stuff out. To clear 'em out, knock out the bottom piece of one of the gravel stacks and throw a torch on that space before the rest fall on it (which is a bit tricky) and then the torch will burn away the rest of the falling gravel for that square. Edit: Now with a short clip!

As for the lava, if you're mining shafts for the ores, I usually just go around. If you're building a room or something, you could always block it off at the source with glass, giving you some free light.

I don't think they destroy sand though, you could always try that instead.
