Chrono Trigger is great. One of the few games that I've actually 100%ed. Easily in my top ten favorite games. I remember buying it for my DS just because it had DBZ artwork. The DS version is actually the best version of it too imo. You get the animated cutscenes of the ps1 version without the long booty load times. Plus an extra ending and a few new items.

The new areas added to the DS version weren't really up to the standard of the rest of the game though.

Chrono Trigger is the best SNES game. It has just enough crunch in the ATB system with positional/area attacks and the dual and triple techs, 6-7 is the sweet spot for characters, the characters themselves are varied and all feel relevant and necessary, changing random battles for essentially scripted ones make them all dynamic as they all have their own little intros, the music is great, the plot keeps moving at a decent clip throughout, it looks fantastic with loads of colour and detail and late SNES spritework has aged better than eg. early Playstation 3D.

Found Crono Trigger and Glory of Heracles, neither of which I have beaten yet. I'm going to have to try again on those.

My deepest condolences. I wouldn't wish replaying Gen 5 on anyone.

More power to you; I went from Gen 3 to Gen 6 since I didn't have a DS until I got a 2DS. I loved the shit out of it. I tried to go back and play Gen 5. Aaaaaaaugh. Every single new thing I liked, gone, and since I didn't have any nostalgic experience playing gen 4 or 5, the artstyle felt *SUPER* dated. Not to mention that I didn't find any effective pokemon in gen 5's roster. They are all awful as far as I'm concerned, with the possible concession of the Litwick line.

Not even in Gen 1 did I have to grind as much as I did in gen 5. And because your pokemon suck, it's most definitely the hardest pokemon game to beat, but I don't find any fun in the challenge, I just find it tedious and unsatisfying.

Only time I had trouble in Gen 5 was with Elesa's goddamn Emolga, Clay's Drillbur, and the surprise final boss.

Other than that, it was smooth sailing. I do wish the season mechanic would come back.

I liked Gen 5.
It was the first time I started doing challenges, went through multiple times limiting to one Pokemon type.

Remember doing a Normal Type only run on it and I found it fun.

I specifically got the dual pack of X and Y so I could completionist the latter and have the former for resetting and playing through whenever I felt like. I'm currently doing a Sky Battle team; Flygon, Charizard, Crobat, Bronzong, Mantine, and (cheating because it's not actually eligible despite being flying type but fuck it I wanted to raise one) Hawlucha. While I have been enjoying having a fighting type to kick things' asses, I have been sorely missing having anyone with a decent electrical attack (Bronzong is the only one who can learn one and even then it's just Charge Beam. :T Even when its supereffective it's not usually any stronger than a regularly effective Psychic/Flash Cannon) or anyone with a grass-type attack. (which would pretty much be limited to Grass Knot)

I fell off of pokemon after gen 2 and came back into it with my lady friend in gen 5. It was there that I discovered two of my favorite pokemon of all time: Bisharp and Sawk (Bisharp btw being a super good pokemon) So I def enjoyed my time with Black. I enjoy it more than Y (despite also liking Y) due to the fact that the game is actually challenging whereas X/Y is super baby tier easy peesy. I never want to go without trainer customization ever again tho.

I can't exactly put my finger on why Gen 5 is unappealing to me.

I mean it's good because it's still Pokemon and all but something about it is just meh to me.

Although maybe take my opinion with a grain of salt because Gen 4 is my favorite and everyone hates that one for some reason?

Maybe some day I'll find a copy of diamond/pearl/platinum that doesn't cost bullshit amounts of cheddar and play it. Until then, playing... *goes to check because the game left so little impression that I actually forgot which one it was* Black has kind of left a bad taste in my mouth regarding all sprite-based pokemon games.

I wtf'd when someone praised the quality of the story because I did not give one single shit about Team PETA and their transparently hypocritical and bullshit message. I at least enjoyed the 'traveling with a bunch of friends who aren't all just trying to be champion' theme of X/Y to make up for their similar lack of an interesting antagonist group. (Though Lysandre gets some points for at least having a nice look even if his name is annoying to remember. On the plus side, checking bulbapedia made me see they're doing an online distribution for Darkrai, so hey, one more mythical pokemon for my collection that I formerly missed out on because of gamestop's franchise exclusivity bullshit. Currently at 713.)
