No Man's Sky comes out soon and I'm still curious as to what its longevity will be. It's a sci-fi open-universe game where you are given no objective. You simply explore, craft, and fight AI enemy ships at times. There are no features in the game that facilitate multiplayer interactions (Stuff like being able to warp to a friend's location, etc.) and meeting another player at random is supposedly exceedingly rare. Frankly, I think that's a mistake. Minecraft in its early days had no objective or survival elements, and yet it became massively successful due to its collaborative nature. Giving players the option to warp to their friends or allow their friends to warp to them would give the game some staying power over the course of this coming fall, holiday season and beyond.

Rivals of Aether is in early access on xbone so I picked it up. It's fun but hopefully they release it so there's actually content in the game.

I think I remember hearing about No Man's Sky from a friend of mine. And now I want the game. And miss the friend.

I have been somewhat enjoying Starbound but I feel like there's still a whole lot of issues that are mostly due to the devs putting in WAY too much shit all at once. I feel zero incentive to try and design a fancy house because there's dozens if not hundreds of tile types to use to do so, which while it makes for amazingly beautiful pixel art and NPC villages, it's completely overwhelming as a player.

The hunger + food mechanics mean that playing survival is mostly a constant struggle to stay fed while trying not to let your food spoil and the similarly overwhelming variety of crops you can use means you can end up with a bunch of mostly useless shit; Get used to eating most of your crops raw or simply cooked, and get as much sugarcane and wheat as you can because you will ALWAYS be held back by how much sugar/wheat/milk and their derivatives you have.

Too many of the weapons are garbage; Hammers and spears especially are super awkward to use and impossible to hit anything with respectively. The most effective thing is to take two fast daggers and just mash attack with both of them to stunlock them to death.

Steam Multiplayer is finicky and puts you at a heightened risk of encountering a game-breaking bug. If on loading the game, your ship is warping somewhere, GG, you're probably fucked, anywhere from losing all your warp and planet bookmarks (bye bye, everything you didn't have on your ship. Hope you enjoy farming up more core shards to open the gate back to the outpost) all the way up to total character/save corruption.

the solution to that is play on casual mode

seriously, starbound is really not suited to the "you died and lost everything and you need to eat and shit" kinda gameplay other games like it use. it's good for extra challenge, but it's not super fun honestly.

Hundreds of tile types? As much as I like the idea of a fancy house, that's too much for me to decide upon.

My only real problem with Starbound is how fast hunger takes effect. I eat half of my inventory's lunchbox, head downstairs to get some non-pixelated (hopefully) food, and come back to find that I have starved to death twice over.

You don't lose hunger while you're sleeping, but yes, the fact that you can't pause the game in any way is a massive pain in the booty when you're constantly fighting both hunger and the short shelf life of your food.

Now, I AM incredibly OCD and frequently obsessed with farming, so I AM going to keep playing it until I have cooked ALL THE THINGS, which will probably take several days to find all this shit. Still don't have any automato, diodia, oculemon, peppers, coffee, grape... a bunch of shit. And I need more sugarcane since I only have two stalks of it and it's required for something like 1/5th of all the recipes. I don't suppose there's a way other than trekking back to the outpost vendor to get raw bacon, is there?

I picked up Binding of Issac. I'm about 5 years late but hey better late than never.

Game's fun, although I'm sad I only got to experience a pretty sick combo (Brimstone + Sister Maggie) for about 5 minutes before dying (on my second run no less)

There will be many more getting sick combos and dying right after to come.
I have experienced it many times.

I didn't even notice that when I quoted. I just saw "Binding of Isaac", "Sick Combo" and "Dying."
:p

Finally getting the hang of Nuclear Throne, but I can't for the life of me put up much of a fight against Throne 2

I has a LoZ shirt.

I am now required to pick up a LoZ game. Probably Spirit Tracks. Heard it was a good game according to a friend.

Just traded in a few games for some cheddar. $0.24 short on the cheapest game available, LoZ: OoT 3D. I now has Zeldas.

My left shoulder button has been better than normal. But the right one still has problems, so still have to fiddle for shield.
