I've never been any good at fighting games, except for smash. I get way too annoyed when I do the wrong button input and it just wears my patience away too much.

I've been down the no memory card road a few times. I lost my PS2 and gamecube memory both at once once and so I had to start my resident evil 4 playthrough over. I actually wasn't that bothered by it though. I was allowed to leave my system on, and I made better upgrade choices my second time through the game so it made the game a lot easier. Ended up finding both my memory cards inside one of my old shoes. Still have no idea how they got there.

I used to be awful at fighting games. Now, I'm just bad. A friend had me try a few traditional 2D fighters and taught me how to do stuff, though I had to figure out many of the input things myself since he hardly ever actually talks.
A shoryuken input in most 2D fighters can easily be done as a sliding motion of Forward Down Forward, instead of Forward Down Forward-Down, as it turns out.

As for Smash, I love wavedashing in Melee. It's fun to slip around on platforms and stuff with it. I wish subsequent games had it.

A friend of mine tried getting me to play skullgirls with him but I just couldn't get into it. I learned some of the basic combos of one of the characters, but I could never do them consistently in an actual match and I just gave up on the game after that.

Yea, wavedashing is fun, I only just recently started seriously playing melee. It's taken a while to get used to the faster pace compared to the other games, but I really like it. Smash 64 and Smash 4 are still more my thing though.

I mostly netplayed Project M, which is basically Melee rebuilt in Brawl with the Brawl newcomers rebalanced for the faster environment. Lucario didn't have stupid mechanics in it and was actually fun and rewarded aggressive play, rather than just letting damage build up.

I'm looking to get Rivals of Aether off of Steam when I get a new PC. It is like Smash, but different and with 2D graphics.

I never played project M. I'm too lazy to install it mostly.

And oh yea, Rivals is another one that I play. It's pretty fun. My controller broke recently though and I can't use keyboard controls for it at all, but it's definitely a fun game. I main Kragg because I suck.

But Project M is soooooooooo worth it!
Ganondorf can KO with his sword taunt!
He uses the sword!!

As for Rivals, I'm looking at Kragg and Forsburn. Both of those seem like they fit my usual playstyles in games.

Project M has always looked cool to me, but I only just recently got a pc capable of running it, and I feel like it's too late to get into it now.

Also, I hate forsburn. My friend mains him and he's so much better at the game than me so it's made me dislike the character a bit.

If I went from an Upsmash spamming, mindless roller to SHFFLing, wavedashing and off-stage KO combos while playing with ransoms online, you can do it too! (I will be getting a new PC next month or so and could use repeat opponents shhhhhh (and I just love teaching people to improve at games))

Do the thing that does the stuff!
Saw a video and apparently you can mess up Forsburn's smoke abuse by smashing a rock to break up all the clouds. If that helps anything at all.

I might try it, it just seems like a pain to get set up. If I do, then sure I'm down to play when you get a PC. I'll definitely have to get a controller first though. There's no way I could play smash with a keyboard.

I kind'a got used to keyboard inputs while playing Super Smash Flash 2.
Not the best, but pretty fun.

Directionally intense games are difficult to play properly on a 360 controller. The thumbstick makes it waaaay too easy to overshoot. I much prefer Nintendo controllers to PlayStation and Xbox controllers.

So I popped my controller open and carved notches into the four cardinal directions so I would never have a problem over overshooting again, as detailed in this poorly edited stock image I made a year ago.

I used keyboard controls for a while in Smash 64, but I never got very comfortable with them.

That's a pretty smart idea. I'll probably just buy an adapter for my gamecube controllers though.

Got back into an addictive hobby, will post final result.

Edit: The trainer won't be there, it's just for scale.

I seriously can't believe how good I got with a keyboard after the M.U.G.E.N. dark times. To this day I fumble with a fightstick and can only just manage with a controller.

I tried to get M.U.G.E.N working several year ago, but the setup process annoyed me and made me move on to other stuff I was fiddling with, like learning the editor for Unreal Tournament.

I was never really able to get into game editors. I think the closest I've gotten is playing mix-and-match with the proletariats for Sonic Generations and dabbling a bit with the Edit Mode in Project Diva F 2nd. My main complaint about them is that they start becoming so complex that you might as well learn how to make something from scratch. Anyways, that's how I started learning how to use Blender.
