Nice cherrypicking
This was my point:

obviously Gen 4 is a special case and should be ignored

It doesn't matter if it was delayed or prematurely announced, the point is they're not going to do that again

Quote:
Congrats, you brushed off an article as lazy research without doing any of your own. This one even links to a Japanese article with tweets from companies and fans talking about the situation in the comments. It's been news for weeks.

Okay but that still doesn't mention any other arcades actually discontinuing the machine, if it was really hurting them and they hated it that much then why did only one arcade pull the plug
It's also outdated now that Shadow Mewtwo exists (article mentions "lack of boss battles") which has generated a lot of hype, and they're doing an event featuring Shadow Mewtwo in the coming weeks
We'll see how that affects profits soon enough

Quote:
Yes, which is why I said I was annoyed that it's taken them this long. They do not need to make an engine, they pushed out ORAS within a year of dev time when they confirmed that the X/Y team were on it, and we're already getting hooks in with the anime about future releases which usually happen after it is announced. Game Freak can do what they want and even announce a game a month before release if they want to (though marketing, leak prevention, etc. would not be worth doing so). The entire point of this argument is how it's frustrating as a fan to get nothing but "sit tight" for over a year with no payoff.

You poor thing, let me dry your tears with a Duke Nukem ForeverTM-brand napkin
It's only been a year, and next year is the 20th anniversary, of course they're not just going to keep things hidden for long

Quote:
You're bodaciously arguing with me over whether my opinion of them delaying a game announcement is good or not. And that's silly. I'd rather them announce early and spend a year hyping the game rather than playing coy about it. That's my gripe, not whether GF is allowed to do this with their IP.

You can still speculate without a game announcement, can't you? The only difference is you don't have the game's name. Remember the announcement of ORAS? Oh boy, boxart and rumbling! We were left with that for a few days, then a teaser of Kyogre and Groudon rising out of the water. Then nothing else for a while. At that point we weren't even sure if they were actually remakes or sequels made out of the blue. So we speculated. Pretend your preferred game name was just shown with some made-up boxart, then a trailer with Zygarde wriggling around in a cave. There you go, speculate away!

Thinking about getting Battlefront but don't really want to shell out the cheddar. From the people I know it's good, an online review said it's light on content but the Star Wars aspect makes you want to come back. Ugh. Weighing pros and cons.

If you're fine with them packaging the rest of the game in DLC, then go right on ahead, otherwise, wait for the GOTY/Definitive version.

From what I've read, they did that thing again where the first 10-15 hours are awesome so the first reviews and reactions are positive, but then you realise the game is a pretty but empty shell. All too common these days unfortunately (Titanfall, Evolve,...). So I'd only shell out the cheddar if you're not planning on sinking hundreds of hours into the game.

It's really sad, I think more games should consider doing stuff like Destiny: The Taken King did, I mean, yeah, at the beginning it was a really daisies stagnant release, but The Taken King was an absolutely amazing DLC that added many new things to do, and House of Wolves is also a good example of a well-done DLC because it added more to PVP, such as the Prison of Elders, and the Trials of Osiris.

I don't approve Destiny's launch, but it still does really daisies good DLC, except Dark Below, that DLC was utter shit.

I'd rather the Mario Kart approach, full complete game at launch, no pre-order bullshit. THEN bitchin' full featured dlc down the line, hopefully with F-Zero music and rad jazz.

I think Battlefront is unfortunately just a product of the industry's current state. We've had years now of almost every major release being judged solely by its multiplayer. I see people proud of the fact that they've "never touched" a game's campaign mode all the time.

Now that developers have started acting on that criticism, players are finally noticing that multiplayer alone usually makes for boring games.

Battlefront is going to go the way of Titanfall. People will love it at first, then within hours they'll realize they've seen everything it has to offer several times over, and within months it'll have a population of 600 and be totally inaccessible to new players.

I e been repeating a level in Halo 3 trying to unlock the achievement for it for a week or so, turns out I was missing the achievement from the next level :(

After reading Forbes' and Breitbart's reviews, it seems like the problem with the game is that DICE spent too much time on making sure the game felt like the closest thing you'll get to an actual Star Wars experience, and ended up running out of time to give the game general depth.

Hooray, I got Undertale!

...I'm not going anywhere near the Undertale thread yet though, don't want to accidentally spoil myself.

After I finish Rise of the Tomb Raider and Fallout 4, I'm going to be officially done with games that require you to gather resources to craft stuff. Granted, Rise of the Tomb Raider's crafting system is a lot better than Fallout 4's, but their one-two punch just made me realize how heavily a lot of modern games have decided to lean on crafting as a cheap depth-adding game mechanic after The Last of Us did it so well. The only way I'll be buying a new game where you have to craft crap is if the rest of the game is really, really good.

I finished Psychonauts yesterday. It's really fun and has a lot of clever writing in it. Milla's Dance Party, Black Velvetopia, and the Meat Circus kinda sucked though. Meat Circus in particular was annoying because the game gives you approximately .0000001 seconds to find Olly before mutant bunnies start hammering on him.
