I think that means you have a 4GB SD card. You can go up to a 32GB SDHC without any complicated formatting of the SD card and you can get it for about $12-$15 on amazon right now. You CAN also go up to a 64 or 128 GB SDXC card, but they run on a different "operating system" of sorts and have to be converted to using the standard FAT32 system, which isn't too hard as long as you have an SD slot on your computer (which you'd need for transferring data from one SD card to the other anyways. 64 GB SDXC cards cost about $25 (and 128 can be anywhere from $38-$50ish if you find them at a good time) and if you ever think you MIGHT upgrade to a New 3DS at some point in the future (or if you think future Nintendo hardware will use MicroSD instead (*shrug*)), I suggest buying a Micro SDXC memory card (which usually comes with an adapter to make it function AS a standard SD card). They'll cost about the same anyways and allow you to use your memory card in both the old systems and the new system. Just be sure it comes with an adapter or you might have to look for one seperately to make it work.
Speed doesn't matter when buying an SD card for the 3DS anyways, so don't worry about buying a super fancy 100 MB/s SD card because the system will load at it's own speed. Go for a trusted brand and read reviews.
I suggest reading this article for help with the technical stuff:
http://lofi-gaming.org.uk/blog/2015/01/ ... s-sd-card/Part 1 is applicable for just transferring from one card to the other without any hiccups, Part 2 is if you're going to buy an SDXC card, and part 3 is for upgrading to a New 3DS.
But basically for the cost of a brand new 3DS game, you could get about 32x the amount of storage on your system. And even for $15 you can get 8 times.
