Reports that Final Fantasy XIV includes a “fatigue” system which involves limits on how long players can effectively play have been dismissed by Square Enix as “fabrication,” despite the fact Square Enix already admitted adding such a system.

Hiromichi Tanaka, Final Fantasy XIV’s producer, dismissed claims about the hugely controversial fatigue system as mere “fabrication” on Twitter:

Quote:
Overseas sites are full of falsehoods. They just put words together and fabricate statements. Japanese sites then mistranslate these. That fatigue system isn’t in and was just something they made up.

However, he was recently interviewed by no less than Famitsu, along with production director Nobuaki Komoto, who freely admitted the existence of the “fatigue” system for penalising heavy players – the only matter in question is what form the system takes, which Square Enix has refused to reveal, causing endless speculation by beta testers as to how the system works.

The supposed “1 hour per day” limit, based on comments originating from 2ch, was in fact first covered by several of the most popular Japanese gaming blogs and a number of other hugely popular Japanese sites – hardly a “fabrication by overseas sites,” and as it originated in Japanese it can hardly be called a mistranslation either.

Meanwhile Japanese players continue to insist the fatigue system does reduce XP gains to 0 after heavy play, some dismissing Tanaka’s comments as “desperation.”

Square Enix could easily dispel consternation about the system by revealing how it works in detail – assuming of course it is not as draconian as some beta testers have already complained.

Quote:
Square Enix have finally clarified how their controversial “fatigue” system for limiting player advancement in Final Fantasy XIV works – players are not after all limited to 1 hour of play a day, but instead to a much more generous 8 hours a week.

The announcement was made on the internal Final Fantasy XIV beta tester site by the game’s director Nobuaki Komoto, and has since been reproduced by multiple sources.

In summary:

Quote:
Players earn XP at 100% for the first 8 hours.

For 7 hours over this limit the XP received decreases to 0%.

The time limit for the playtime counter to reset is 1 week.

The XP gain limit is not tied to any class/job but is per character.

Drops and loot are not affected by the XP “fatigue.”

Strangely, this is not so far off the “1 hour a day” limit which caused so much controversy – and hardly “fabrication” and “delusion” as Square Enix put it not so long ago.

A little better sounding, but I still hope it gets removed.

I also feel a iffy about the vendor system they're using in the beta.
Basically there's no searchable database for items you want to buy (and you need to browse through many user stores to find what you need)
Honestly, the auction house was/is so much better, and it became an example for other games to use.
If it ain't broken, don't fix it!
Although, they DO have a section of town (with an auction house logo above the door) that can't be accessed. They say they're going to implement it eventually, so I hope it's soon...

I expect this is due to how horridly the auction house overinflated everything in FFXI. For example, a scroll of Stone, the Lv1 Black Mage spell, costs about 61 gil from a vendor. New Black Mages CONSISTENTLY buy it off of the Auction House for 1,000. And that's not the worst of it, by far.

I still think it might be a good idea, kind of like what Guild Wars did, to remind players when they've played for one hour, two hours, etc, and reccommend to actually not play the game for a while and take a break.

Honestly going from 1 hour a day to 8 hours a week still doesn't sound that good of an idea.

Maybe if it were like 5 hours a day then it'd make sense, but even then I don't think most people would like it.

I don't think they understand the amount of time a good amount of mmo players put into their mmos
because its usually more than 15 hours a week.

8 hours a week that would be 1 hr and 8 mins a day.
They gave you 8 or so minutes a day more. Don't be fooled.
You could play 8 hours one day and then you would have to wait a week and play other games until it was ready again. Is this their crappy attempt to make some of us fat booty gamers healthier?

Even if it is, it's not like there are other games they could be playing instead of a game they hardly get to play

To be honest I had the game one time. The code failed so I never played the game. I might want to. I don't know. I'm bored.

Which game WoW? My computers graphics didn't work right when I play FF11 which really killed the game for me. Along with the slow as shit leveling. It wouldn't fully render all the monsters, characters, and players skins. They look like shiny shape blobs.

WHOOP QUOTES COMING RIGHT AT YA
The Director, Nobuaki Komoto wrote:
This all is still currently under development, and we have plans to make the limit more palatable in answer to all the tester feedback we received concerning this. In particular we would like to address the speed with which experience begins to drop off and are already looking into it.
Also, since experience points fatigue carries over despite changing weapons, we plan to make it not so harsh.

At the very least, we promise to not have people hitting these limits in a short period of time, such as during the start of B3.

The Director, Nobuaki Komoto wrote:
Surplus experience is currently not being used. However, we have received many comments suggesting some sort of reward be put into effect regarding it, and we think that’s a pretty interesting idea. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, though, and we’re currently investigating the possibilities.
